Poly-Lagoon vs. Garden

OK. We are very excited about being booked at the Poly . We currently are booked for a logoon view. The only debate we have is if it will be worth the extra $$ (over $700 extra for 7 nights) on an already high spring break price. My biggest concern would be getting a lagoon view that is not much of a view . We do have a couple young boys and during a stay a WL some years back we had a lagoon view and they loved watching the electric water parade from the balcony at night. Any thoughts from Poly veterans? This is our first Poly stay.

The poly has NO bad LV's. Don't worry. There are only a few building's available with LV and they are all wonderful. Tahiti over looks beach and is near TTC, has great bathrooms too. 2 sinks, little larger rooms, and perfect view. Tavulua building across from volcano / marina overlooks water no beach. closer to GF. And finally far end of Aorotoea overlooks beach near the luau cove.

The LV at the poly are really special. We used to get them constantly but found we really enjoyed the gv just as much. poly has beauitful gardens and great views all around can't go wrong.

Thanks. Currenty, our request is the Tahiti building so it looks like that would work well. You said you now prefer Garden view...any particular reason?

We prefer Garden view because I like looking out on the grounds of the Poly, not the GF. Just my HO. We had a room on the third floor of Tokelau, the last two years, overlooking the quiet pool and I thought the view was great, very peaceful and it really submerges you in the tropical atmosphere. We would just walk down to the beach to watch the fireworks and the EWP on the nights we were around for them. It just wasn't worth the extra $$$ to see the castle on the far side of the lagoon for the few minutes we actually spent staring out the window.

We had booked a GVC and changed to LVC in September and it was worth every penny. We are going over Spring Break too and we are probably going to do GVC because of the Peak season rates!

Although I would love to stay lagoon view one day and to especially have a view of Cinderella's Castle 24 hours a day, the cost is just too prohibitive for us. Just can't justify that much more a night. My husb has problems with what we pay in value season for a GV, but we can swing it and our stays are always wonderful. The grounds are just so full and lush and green at the Polynesian, and our GV rooms in Tahiti and Tokelau have been perfect. You may not see the water, but your views in a GV room will be pretty all the same. And like tlev indicated, it is so easy to walk to the beach or the marina area to view the fireworks.

Obviously, only you can ultimately decide if the extra cost is worth it to you. With that being said, we have stayed at the POLY too many times to count, in ALL types of rooms, and IMO, the POLY has some of the best GV/SV room views and locations at WDW! We love to sit on the patio in the Samoa building facing the Volcano pool "Soaking" up the view and atmosphere.

Last time I stayed at the Poly we had a garden view. Just like you I was having trouble justifying the extra charge for the lagoon view. In the end we decided we'd be spending most of the time out of the room and just sleeping there. The garden view was still wonderful. I haven't stayed everywhere on property yet, but the Poly is defiantly my favorite.

If you want to save money, but have a partial lagoon view - request a room in Fiji. We stayed here & had a view of the marina & volcano pool. I believe the other side looks out at the Grand Floridian & partial lagoon. We thought the view was great!!

DH and I stayed at the poly for one night and are taking our family back in Feb. We will be staying GV. For us, the view was not worth the extra money. Our daughters are now 9 & 4 (the 4 yo is the energizer bunny!), perhaps if they were younger and we were stuck in the room more with naps and early bedtimes we might have sprung for the better view.

You asked why we stay GV now? Well like the other poster stated, one reason the $$$. We usually stay at the Poly for around 18 nites and at LV prices is very expensives so any little bit helps. But once we stayed in the GV, we found the most awesome views in GV categories. We have had 3rd floor marina view figi, our personal fav. room & building. Raroatonga overlooking monorail once & quiet pool another time. Tokelau 6 different times & views. Hawawii (concerige) GV overlooking quiet pool, Tahiti x 3 overlooking gardens with extra space & large bathrooms Aorteaora x 2 overlooking monorail wizzing by. Very magic kingdom . Our LV experiences where all in tahiti 3rd floor very nice view we stayed there about 5 or 6 times? Before the price really became a large difference. I would take that room again in a heart beat but it does not make or break my trip. NOW if I stay at BC I would only stay waterview the std is very skimmpy view's, you could get lucky but that is a big chance you could be looking at a wall at the bcv. Depends which resort we are at, if I feel it is worth the $$$ poly it is nice but not necessary for the price. I would not turn down a free upgrade but am perfectly happy with the garden.

I had the same dilemma - but I can only get a lagoon view - originally wanted garden or GVC. Now, I am happy with the idea of lagoon view, as I spend a lot of time sitting on balcony - but, like you, I'm concerned that I will get a bad lagoon view. One of the other posters have stated that there are no bad lagoon views, but I have read that some of them can be obstructed by foliage - to what extent, I do not know, but hope it is not too bad.

I was struggling with the same decision for my trip next October. My family has styaed at the Poly several times at all different locations within the resort. I really wanted a LV room for my boyfriend and I next year but I decided that the extra $800 it would have cost us would be better spent elsewhere. As much as I love LV, the grounds are so beautiful and I don't plan on hanging out in the room, or even on the balcony for that matter, very much while we're there. I love watching EWP from the beach and I love strolling the grounds so I opted for the GV room and added a few days to the trip instead. We'll also be doing a few other special things with that extra money. I just felt that it was better spent elsewhere (this time around anyway).
