Poly in November - convince me...

Okay, I'm toying with the idea of staying at the Poly... my boss just got back from a trip, so I asked him if he would stay there again... his answer - "NO". In his eyes, the Poly is nothing more than a 2 star motel. Granted he and his family weren't able to use the pool, but overall he didn't feel it was worth all the hype...

So please, tell me why so many of you DO like the Poly!

We stayed at the Polynesian Concierge last month and we had no complaints, except for the family that was staying above us at one point. It sounded like a herd of elephants, but that can happen at any resort you stay at. People either like the Polynesian or hate it - there doesn't seem to be an in-between.

I'd be an in-betweener!!!! Well, everytime I stay at the Poly, I also feel it's nothing special. But, when I'm not staying there and visit, I yearn to be there again. There is just such a nice tropical, relaxing feel about the place. I think my "problem" with the Poly is that I don't like the room decor. Again, personal tastes. So, when I'm visting, I'm not seeing the rooms, just the beautiful grounds!!! I've never had a bad stay at the Poly, it's just that the rooms aren't my speed, but I LOVE the resort!!!! I'd stay there, it is a great place!!!

But would you choose it over the Beach Club?

Well, me no I wouldn't. I think the Beach Club wins hands down. Now, if you're going to be traveling with 5 people, then I'd say the Poly since the rooms are MUCH bigger than the BC.

We chose the Polynesian for the following reasons:
1. Got a great discount rate
2. On the monorail line/boat to MK

We have a 3 yr. old and it was convenient to get to MK, plus he loves riding the monorail anyway during non-park times (one day he didn't even want to go inside MK, he just "wanted to ride the train again and again."). He also likes boat rides.
This December we're trying the Swan to be near the Boardwalk area...we're hoping the boat rides there will also keep him entertained. I'd like to try BC or BWV, but only if I can get a discount rate. Size of room isn't really an issue since there's just the three of us.

So I guess my answer would be that we choose whichever deluxe gives us the better discount!

We stayed at both the Polynesian and BC last November. First time for each. We would choose the Polynesian. We liked the laid back south seas feeling of the Poly. BC room was a closet compared to the Poly. and just didn't care for the crowded "jersey shore" kind of feel. Did like the closeness to Epcot at BC because we eat most of our dinner there, but wouldn't stay there again.

It really is just personal taste. If you're looking for that five star swanky HOTEL kind of feel, don't choose the Polynesian. If you think you would like that laid back, south seas RESORT kind of feel, it could be the place for you.

I can see some don’t like the theme of the Polynesian but there is noting MOTEL about it. The rooms are larger than most rooms on property the food at the Polynesian is some of the best in WDW. The service has always been great for me and most of what is there is in very good if not new condition. The pool area itself is only 2 years old and you will never find a pool like it in a motel. It is not bright and white but I seem to get the “DARK” comment from many that are on the east coast. I guess not too many of them have ever traveled to any Pacific Islands. You can stay in a room on the beach that is built of bamboo and has furniture much like the Polynesian and spend $500 a night. Maybe the Polynesian culture needs to brighten up their décor to make the average Disney fan happy .

My final comment is that if you need to be talked into staying there than don’t go there.

My experience might be biased since Poly is the first and only WDW resort I have ever stayed at. Also, I stayed at Poly for my honeymoon. The room is just a regular "garden view" room but I could also see the beach and the logoon from my window. The room is clean and roomy. Love the Hawaiian theme and decor, especially the torch at night.

Poly is indeed no 5 stars if compared with Ritz, but this is more than 5 stars for me.

We Switch each year between GF (RPC) and Poly. We were not thrilled with the Poly last visit. I think the rooms are a lot of money for what you get. I found the rooms to be a bit run down, and housekeeping was not up to par. The Poly is in need of a facelift - don't know if it has had one since 10/01 when we last visited) Its a long walk to get anywhere, inc the monorail. After a long day in the park its tiring. The pluses are - We do though love being right on the "beach" with the hammock right outside our room and a great view of the lagoon parade and Fireworks. At night you can hear the howling from the Haunted Mansion, which is fun. It is also close walking distance to the transport center, which is great since you can get off from Epcot monorail and take the back path into the Poly (its easier in the AM than it is in the PM). We are staying at the GF thisMay and I think next year we will try the BC or YC. I've been hearing wonderful things about it and it looks beautiful. We also do not have any children, which makes a big difference.
