I was just curious how much rehab was still taking place at the GCH at the Poly. Last year there were some walls around some of the gift shops near Captain Cooks. I was wondering if a lot of the GCH was undergoing a rehab, or is the rehab is pretty much over. If anyone who has been to the Poly recently could comment I would appreciate it.
Thanks,

I would like to know too. We are going to the Poly in May and I hope there aren't walls up to detract from the beauty of the resort. I know that work has to be done. I just hope not while I'm there (LOL)

When we were there in October, the only walls we saw up were on the way to Captain Cooks. I don't know when they'll be finished with that re-hab, but unless you go down that hall, you really don't see it. It didn't take away from the beauty of the GCH at all.

We are going in May also but I'm not worried about it. When we stayed at the Poly in April 2003 there was quite a bit going on but it didn't detract from the beauty at all. The green walls just sort of blend in and you really don't notice them. :)

We stayed at the Poly in May and the construction was still going on. They were working on Raratonga, which is directly to the left of the GCH when approaching from the back. I was a little disappointed. For me, it did take away from the atmosphere. The rear of the GCH is especially beautiful and seeing the walls and equipment took away from it. I would try and avoid staying at the Poly when they are doing construction, but that's just me.

I understand why they do the construction piecemeal. But I really wish they would just shut the place down a couple weeks every few years and do a total rehab. I know, that would have to be one big construction crew, require everything to fall into place perfectly, oh yeah, and convince Disney to forgo profits for a couple weeks. But allow me my dream, please.

We were at the Polynesian 2/14-2/20. There is still construction going on in the GCH. If you come in the front entrance, basically that whole left side of the lobby is walled off. I never noticed any noise, however. There is no longer construction/walled areas in the hallway leading to Capt. Cook's. Where there once was a gift shop on the left, there are now new bathrooms. Very attractive. Coming from the volcano pool into the lobby, there is also a walled area near the gift shop. Couldn't quite figure out what was going on there. The gift shop is unchanged.

Because of the lobby renovations, the only pay phone are located on the 2nd floor near the elevator.

While I would have preferred not to see any walled areas, I really did not find it very distracting. I'd return in a heart beat if the opportunity arose. I just returned and can't wait to go back!!
