Just read that the GCH will be undergoing a rehab until around December 2014, I am staying at Poly for 2 weeks late August.

Is this likely to be a major concern? If I arrive and the GCH is like a building site what options will I have?

To me, the gch was only a place to get to the monorail. The beauty of the poly was in the outside grounds, torches, beach and pool. So the gch is not the problem. The problem is the walkways pool and beach will be off limits as they redo the whole pool area during that time. I would reconsider your stay at the poly unless they push back the pool construction again. Tough for me as well since the poly makes disneyworld special to me and is a huge part of my trips

I'd be more concerned about the pool being closed.

The pool rehab was due to start in August but it is not on the list of currently scheduled works as posted by Tikiman recently. Do you know anything else about it?

Oh sorry then. The last I saw/read was that it was to start in August.

I had heard that originally but with GCH rehab running from March-December, I put the fact that it is not on the list down to doing pool and GCH at the same time would just take too much away from the resort.

The rumors (and that's what these are because no one knows for sure) is that they're going to remove the waterfall and replace it with something else. Most of the work will be on the first floor but they will be shutting down sections of the 2nd floor as they do the work but as far I know you should still have access to the monorail.

No one knows what that means for the restaurants on the 2nd floor though.

I was planning on doing a dinner at Ohana's at the Poly in early September. Should I scratch this plan??

Eeek I was planning dinner at 'Ohana also for the last week of August. Wondering what kind of effect this will have.

I'd follow the poly construction thread on here because people that visit will post actual pictures of whats going on. I also like to keep up with tikiman's page :)

I would decide what would be enough to make me switch resorts and how important the Polynesian is to my stay. Then I'd look over the sources i had like tikiman's page and the construction thread here. in the end you really just to have to weigh the risks and make the call.

I might make a second reservation and then cancel one just to be sure i had another option.

I might change to CR.

Dont Disney have to notify guests of any building works in advance.

To not inform me and then let me turn up to find GCH is a building site and the pool is closed is simply unacceptable.

I know were going on holiday anywhere else then the travel agent has to inform me of building works etc. Surely Disney Travel Company has to abide by the same rules, they are ATOL and ABTA registered.

A good example of how things work when construction is planned is the modifications to the East Pool in 2011.

In early 2010 there were dates set to redesign the entire East Pool (AKA quiet pool) with artist renderings of it having a zero entry and a grotto look to it. The dates to close the pool were set a few times in 2010. Finally in 2011 I saw a new change to the date that the pool was going to close. This was about the 4th time I was given dates and by this time most people figured I was getting wrong information. This changing of dates is typical of how Disney works.

When I posted the last set of dates they closed on the exact date I posted but no one who was going to arrive at the resort within a few days was told anything. They would call and see if what I was saying was right and they were told there were no plans to close the pool.

I knew someone there on the day the pool was supposed to close and asked them to check for me. They said the walls went up and they were notified in their room with a letter slipped under the door. Before that they were given no indication that the pool would close during their stay. A few days into the pool being closed some people would call the resort number and ask how long the pool would be closed and many times the answer to their question was “The pool is not closed and no construction is scheduled”, even though I had photos of the walls up around the pool. I don’t believe that anyone is trying to deceive the guests, I think it is just a lack of sharing information.

I guess my point is, don’t expect to be told anything ahead of time.

Thats just bad form.

I may change to CR.

I would be fuming if I turned up and everything I expected to find there was closed and the GCH looked like a building site.
