we are going to be in Disney from June 23rd until July 6th 2005 we will be doing some resort hopping and I was wondering (for all you Poly experts out there) would it be a wise thing to stay at the Poly, forgo the parks and just sit on the beach and watch the fireworks from there? This is my plan right noe but if there are any reasons not to my ears are ready to hear!! Anyone? Mimimom:wave2:

We are booked at Poly concierge garden view for July5-8, 2005. First time staying there for us, but visit all the time for restaurants. Staying at Swan July 3 and 4th. Figure do MGM, epcot stuff first 2 days and monorail MK stuff last 3. It would be convenient to stay at Poly if you were doing MK for the 4th to get back in a decent amount of time. You would still have to go early and plan on staying..MK has hit capacity on the 4th traditionally by 10am.

We stayed at the Boardwalk last July 4. Instead of going into MK on the 4th, we went over, had dinner at the poly, and then went to the beach to watch the fireworks. The beach at the poly seemed to get very crowded early, but it was a great place to watch the fireworks! After the MK fireworks, we walked to the TTC and then made it to EPCOT in time to see their fireworks, and then we walked back to the Boardwalk. It was one of the best trips we have taken, and we have taken ALOT!!

That is exactly what we did when we stayed at the Poly in 2003. We spent July 4th at the resort. The 4th was one of our down days at the resort to enjoy the pool. We have been to the parks on July 4th before and it gets very crowded. The Poly beach got very crowded for the fireworks, but it was bearable. It was nice not to fight the crowds after the fireworks in MK. One word of caution is they were checking resort ID's when we were there to verify you were a Poly guest. Mostly at the pool.

I have never seen an ID checked at the Polynesian and we stay there almost every 4th. The beach gets more and more crowded every year. No chairs at the pool or on the patios because people take them out to the beach. No pool towels. No room in the pool because so many people that show up for fireworks just hop right in. You really can't hear the music from the beach.

My advice, save your money and pick a different night or resort. Polynesian has gotten to be too crowded on the 4th for the paying guests to enjoy. Next year we'll be at one of the Epcot resorts. :wave2:

We were there his past July 4th. From our room we watched people start to drag chairs and blankets out onto the beach at 4:00pm. When we returned after the fireworks, the beach was a mess. Kudo's to the wonderful CM's who had it at least somewhat cleaned up the next day. We noticed that many with ground floor rooms were missing their patio furniture that night and even into the next morning.

We DID see security roaming around heavily that day. If you were not a Polynesian Guest, or didn't have a confirmed advance PS, you couldn't enter the resort by car, period.

They were checking ID's heavily at the pool area that day, and people were being asked to leave.

Those without a PS arriving via monorail or bus were being told they simply wouldn't be able to seat them in the restaurants that night.

It looked like they were trying to enforce thier posted policy of the beach only being open to Polynesian guests. I'm sure some slipped through. The beach was very crowded as we cruised past it, and I was glad I wasn't fighting those crowds.

Having been at the Polynesian for the 4th 2000, 2001 and 2002 I have seen them check resort ID around the pool area and people heading for the beach. Many still got to the beach but at least they were trying. The beach does get crowded but it is nothing like the mass of people in the park and we always felt the view was better from the Polynesian beach (or your lagoon view room) than in the park since they shoot some of the fireworks off from the islands out in the Seven Seas Lagoon.

The only reason I would not go back for the 4th is because they changes the value season to start on the 5th so if you check in on the 4th you would pay the higher rate the whole stay.

It does get crazy on the beach compared to the quiet viewing of the fireworks every other night at the Polynesian but it is still the best spot in WDW in my opinion.

Aloha
