As my family of 5 tries to complete our resort choice decision for our trip next May, we are leaning toward Poly concierge. I have never stayed in concierge before and had some questions....

1. What is concierge etiquette as it relates to where the food/drink is consumed? While I don't intend to abuse "the system" I would like to know for instance, could my husband and I bring a glass of wine back to our room to enjoy while our kids are in bed? How about bringing a PBJ or soda to the pool area?

2. I understand the 3rd floor of the Hawaii building is half smoking. We want a balcony and are non-smokers, are the rooms or hallways smoky?

3. Can you ever get a AAA discount on these rooms?

4. When the concierge makes PS's ahead of time, do they assure you to get what you want? For example, do they always get PS's for Cindy's breakfast 90 days out? What other benefits do they provide for ahead of time?

As I said, we have never stayed on the concierge level before, so any other info that you think is important would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!

You will get many comments from people some from laid back people and some from uptight people. Here's my comment

We stayed concierge in Sept. Upon checking in we were told by the CM to stock our mini-fridge with sodas available in the lounge and to grab some cookies and uncrustables (PBJ sandwiches)to keep in our room. When we were there I would make a drink of Bailey's and milk that were available and head to the pool while DD11 swam. A couple of times we were there during appetizers, we would make up a plate and go back to our room because we enjoyed being on our balcony instead of the lounge. We were on the 3rd FL in a non-smoking room. Our view was that of the quiet pool, once the sun went down and they lit the tiki's it was a wonderful and relaxing. The hall nor the room smelled of smoke. If there is availiblity you can get a AAA rate. After you make your ressies concierge will contact you by mail about who is traveling with you and where you need PS's for. Tikiman's site also has the number to concierge. I didn't use them for PS's but they did get me the White Chocolate Mickey and Cindy's slipper delivered to my room.

We enjoyed Poly concierge. My favorite saying
gas and tolls to Disney $50
Poly concierge (FL rate in sept) $330 a night
Watching the fireworks from swing on Poly beach and being able to walk to my room without waiting for a bus Priceless!!!

Myelf, D-Mother in law, DD and D-cousin and we loved it!!!
You can go sit in the room or bring it back to your room...
Nice glass of wine with cheese and crackers!! lovely desserts every night we would go eat and eat later..
I had PS before we got there was afraid it might be to late and would not get the times we wanted...
Never smelled smoke!
Do it you'll love it!! :grouphug:

A1. You can grab something and take it to your room or anywhere you like as long as you are not grabbing the room tray and loading up like some do. It sounds like you are the type to know how much is too much so don’t worry about taking it back to the room.

Q2. I understand the 3rd floor of the Hawaii building is half smoking. We want a balcony and are non-smokers, are the rooms or hallways smoky?

A2. This type of question cannot be answered since it is different for everyone who goes. I have been and there was no smoke smell on the upper floor but others have been and there has been. It all depends on what the people who are there do when you are there. If there are quite a few heavy smokers and the door opens a lot and lets the smoke into the hall it will smell. Sorry I can’t give you a better answer.

Q3. Can you ever get a AAA discount on these rooms?

A3. Yes we booked with Magical vacations using and AAA rate but than they told us an AP rate came out that was better and switched us. There are only a few rooms in Concierge that you can use either of the discounts and they go fast so have a good planner that can get you the rate when it comes up.

Q4. When the concierge makes PS's ahead of time, do they assure you to get what you want? For example, do they always get PS's for Cindy's breakfast 90 days out? What other benefits do they provide for ahead of time?

A4. Most of the time they can get you your requested PS but not 100% of the time. If you are concierge you have access to the email address to be able to communicate your requests, or any PS, shows, etc you want them to take care of as well as any in-room gifts you want to be ordered. Non-concierge guests are not to use this email. They have gotten us our Illuminations cruise when we have gone and it sells out quickly.

I've never stayed poly conc. either, but I will in July. I already sent out ps request, the only one I was worried about was the ressie for CRT, but I was told the day and time of our reservation. July 7th at 8:05...she asked if this was ok! I just about peed my pants, of couse it was ok!!! other than that they have booked tours for us, water activites, fireworks cruise....etc. they have been great! I would e-mail them with any questions, they have been really helpfull to me!

Just remember NOT to email them untill you have a concierge reservation. They are not supposed to answer emails from anyone who does not have a confirmed reservation in a conicerge room.

They get enough emails and phone messages to answer from confirmed guests. Can you imagine if they had to answer questions from those considering a reservation also?

Thanks everyone for the insight! It sounds like the way we want to go! Now I just need to finalize my dates for next May....

Go ahead and bring your wine to your room or a PB&J to the pool. The problem is with abuse, taking the entire bottle of wine or all the PB&J's, or taking the food to the pool area to feed your relatives who are staying at Pop and visiting for the day.

2. I understand the 3rd floor of the Hawaii building is half smoking. We want a balcony and are non-smokers, are the rooms or hallways smoky?

Room floor/view requests are not guaranteed. That said, if you request third floor close to the lounge, you will smell no smoke. You'll need to decide which is more important, no smoke or no balcony, and be prepared with a second choice if the third floor end rooms aren't available.

3. Can you ever get a AAA discount on these rooms?

Yes, sometimes, based on availability. It's generally only 5-10% these days, don't expect anything considerable.

4. When the concierge makes PS's ahead of time, do they assure you to get what you want? For example, do they always get PS's for Cindy's breakfast 90 days out? What other benefits do they provide for ahead of time?

Hard to get PS's are never guaranteed. For things like Cindy's, I wouldn't chance it, and would plan on trying to get it on my own as well. Most other PS's they'll be able to get with no problem. I tried for a hard to get reservation last year for July 4th, and had both the BC and Polynesian resorts trying as well (I was moving from one to teh other on July 4th, so had both working on it). Guess who snagged it? Me.

We were on the third floor of Hawaii last June, we had no idea it was a partially smoking floor, we never smelled any, and we are very sensative to smoke.

Sorry to be such a pest with all these questions, but , is smoking allowed in the concierge lounge?

Smoking is not allowed in any other part of the building other than the smoking optional rooms. This includes the lounge area as being non-smoking.

Thinking about staying at the Poly concierge in Sept.. DF and I strolled over to the POLY last summer to check it out for our next trip, however, we were so turned off due to the smell. We had just about given up the idea and have researched every hotel except the Poly due to this. The smell must have been from the torches! Wow....this board has been amazing! Now I am very excited and want info about the Lagoon view Concierge rooms! Have always wanted to stay there, and can't imagine a better time than my honeymoon!!!!!
Do they have smoking available? If so, what type of view is it? Do they have king beds or just queens? Thanks for all the help!

No kings, but the beds are queens. There are 4-5 LV CL smoking rooms at the Polynesian, they are on the third floor of the Hawaii building. Due to the limited number, I wouldn't wait to book.

The smell from the torches is supposed to be fixed. The torches use to be turned on and lit by hand each night. They were installing new torches that lit themselves and were supposed to relight themselves if they blew out. I don’t know if this happened or not. I know they started to over a year ago and had some problems to work out and hopefully they have. It is hard to go off of what a few people say about things because they are there at different times and experience different things. Like with the short time the pool heater was not working people would post that the Polynesian pool was not heated ever or the couple of times the speakers at the beach did not work people would say the Polynesian does not have speakers at the beach. The smell of the propane is not always there and is something they know about and may have already addressed.

Yes smoking rooms are of the far end of the 3rd floor of Hawaii concierge. All rooms have two queen beds and a day bed except in the suites. One of the old suites is being made into a junior suite with a king bed and a Jacuzzi tub and some are calling it a honeymoon suite. It is slightly smaller than a standard room and the view does look toward the castle but you are back behind the marina and a lagoon view room would have a slightly better view (just my opinion).

THANK YOU!!!! I am not even begin to thank you enough for the info! I have wanted to stay at the POLY for as long as I can remember, even begging mom to stay there instead of the Contemporary as a kid. After last summer and experiencing the smell, we just decided against it. We have looked at every hotel on the property with the exception of the value resorts for our honeymoon, and have just not been that excited about any of them. Now I can't wait until DF comes home and we can crunch some numbers and plan our DREAM HONEYMOON!! He is a smoker, so the only good thing about that is that we might actually have a balcony from our LV room. If any one has any more ifo I would appreciate it!!!! I am so excited!!!!!

TIA!!!! :Pinkbounc
