Poly Concerns!!

We've stayed at the Polynesian 10 times over the past 20 years. We did have a plumbing problem once - the sink would not drain. Guess what, we called the front desk and the plumber came and fixed it!! :thumbsup2 Plus those newer toilets with the push button on top of the tank to flush are darn powerful!

As for rude CM's, there is that lady at Captain Cook's.... (I think her name tag says she's from New York - just teasing NY'ers!) She's been there ever since we've been staying at the Polynesian and I just turn the charm up a notch. ;) We've had more "Alohas!" than not. Just remember that CM's at any resort are human, have bad days, make mistakes, etc.

Seems like the OP's choice of Eeyore may be appropriate. To all others concerned about staying at the Polynesian or any other resort, go and have a good time! :sunny:

I agree with the folks that are telling you that you will get complaints on these boards about any resort. Don't let it make you switch if you really want the Poly. It's our favorite resort that we've tried thus far and we've stayed at the CR, Poly, WL, GF, CSR, CBR, YC, BC, Swan, Dolphin, POR, OKW, and All Star Music. We've stayed there 2 times and I can't say that I have even one complaint or have encountered any of these things you have mentioned.

We just returned from a stay at the Poly. We were there from August 17-25. This was our 6th stay at the Poly and out best ever. The updated rooms are beautiful and very convenient. Loved the refridgerator, new closet space, little bar area, flat screen TV, just everything.

I had no problems at Captain Cooks. I found the food very good, especially loved the flat breads. We also never had to wait at Captain Cooks. There was never more then one or 2 persons in front of us.

The staff was extremely friendly from check in to grounds staff lots of Aloha's and asking if we needed help with anything. We stayed in Samoa facing the quiet pool. We are a family of 5 and used the bathroom alot. We never once had any plumbing problems. My husband loves a cold room and he was very happy with the air conditioning systems.

We ate at both Ohonas and Kona's and had had some of our best meals there. I have one complaint the entire vacation about the resort. We would sit in the morning by the quiet pool and eat breakfast and have our coffee. They are renovating the Tokeleu building and there was some annoying banging. That being said everything else was wonderful and that one small complaint would never convince me to change resorts. I don't believe any resort will be perfect its how you deal with the problems that makes a difference.

I don't think you will have anything to worry about staying at the Poly but that is my opionion based on a recent wonderful stay.

Hmmmm... you have a point. Although, I, personally, wouldn't wait 3 days to resolve it. If I had any sort of problem, I would report it to guest relations immediately. pixiedust:

I didn't wait 3 days to resolve it~I did report it immediately. Afterall, it's not really something you can let go unreported. However, it was not my first choice to switch rooms. It was my hope that they would somehow remedy the problem. You can't just say "oh, my toilet got clogged tonight, have me a new room in the morning." What a major drag having to pack up that room. That's the main reason why I would never split my stay up with two resorts. I guess alot of people just live out of a suitcase, but we had everything unpacked and in drawers or hung on hangers.

Aloha all,
I've lost track of the number of times we have stayed at the Poly. Our last adventure was in mid to late July. The only problem we have ever had was on this trip and the smoke detector went off at 11:30, 11:45, and 12:00 at night . This was quite jarring. That baby was loud. We made a call and by 12:15 we had a new smoke detector. We don't care about towel animals or getting "aloha's" from every cm in sight. What I care about is getting to spend a few days at my favorite place (other than the Haunted Mansion)where I can relax with a Mai Tai, watch Wishes, go to O'hana's and Kona's, attend a Luau, and swim next to a volcana and be on v.a.c.a.t.i.o.n. at a place I call home. Problems can happen anywhere at anytime. Roll with it and have a great time... You will not be sorry for staying at the Polynesian. Although it may ruin other resorts for you... :boat:

BTW - I had a Mai Tai for you, Tikiman. I would have had two but I did not want you to have a headache the next day!

We have been staying at the Poly since they opened many moons ago. We just love this resort and have never had a bad stay there.
I am shocked to hear about rude CMs because our experience is just the opposite. We find the Poly CMs to be among the nicest we have ever encountered.
We find the theming of the resort to be amazing. We especially love it at sunset, it is truely magical.
We have many fond memories at the Poly and have pictures of our kids in the Poly lobby from when they were babies to adults. The Poly will always have a very special place in our hearts.
Go and enjoy the resort, it is fantastic! Make sure you try out Kona and O'hana, both are great restaurants. Also make sure you get the drink Lapu Lapu. They are great and so tropical and quite strong also, LOL! Order the Lapu Lapu at the bar, not in O'Hana because at the bar they are served in a fresh pineapple, in the restaurant they are not.
Also make sure you see the torch lighting ceremony. It is in the evening and although it is short, it is still nice to see.
Another fun thing to do at the Poly is rent the water mice. They are a lot of fun and the Poly's go faster then some of the other resort's water mice plus you have all of the 7 seas lagoon to explore and it is a big area!
I could just go on and on about how nice it is to stay at the Poly. After our beloved BWV and YC/BCV, the Poly is our next favorite resort.
Have a great trip!

I don’t think the reports that were posted about the negative issues were opinion. In fact I take those reports seriously and I feel that those posters gave a very honest and accurate report. I think the idea everyone is trying to communicate is that problems can happen anywhere but if you see the majority of reports about resorts they are by far positive. I myself have fallen into the worry about a trip after reading things and so far every bad thing I have read has not happened to me once I got there.

Part of the fun of going is the anticipation of going. Don’t let any report rob you of that.

Thank you for the reassurance and believe me, I am very much looking forward to staying at this resort. I think the anticipation most certainly has something to do with the negative reports making me much more nervous about our stay than the other reports have. Like others have said, I'll be at Disney, what could possible be wrong with that!

Labor Day cannot get here soon enough! My thanks to all that have shared their experiences at the Poly.

Two more day to go and we'll be there
