We are leaving on Labor Day for a week at the Poly. I have wanted to stay at this resort for as long as I can remember. DH and I finally saved enough for our week there and now I am becoming very nervous and concerned.

There have been a lot of posts about problems with the toilets, rude CMs, Captain Cook's, etc. and I'm afraid that our upcoming trip will not be all that we would like it to be. We have stayed at AKL, POR, CBR, and the ASM in the past and have always had a great time with no problems at all. Even received a free upgrade at AKL in 2004.

I was wondering what the policy is for switching to another deluxe if we encounter any of the problems listed above. I just don't want the entire vacation to be ruined if it can be helped by switching resorts.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I'm right there with you. Dh and I have two nights in LVC planned at the begining of our October trip and I'm getting worried!

We've stayed there twice before ... once for 3 nights and once for 6, and to be really honest, were VERY unimpressed by the CMs there. But the resort is beautiful, so we just overlooked it.

But now to hear that they might be having plumbing problems, losing luggage, etc. etc. ... I'm a little concerned that our stay might be way less than magical! Dh says not to worry, it'll be fine, and we're only there for 2 nights anyway -- but I keep wondering if we should switch resorts. :confused3

I have never stayed at Poly, or even been to Disney (first trip in 8 days) but I wanted to give you some support and tell you I know how you feel. I booked at AKL and every time I read that the bed are uncomfortable, rooms are dirty, pool is crowed, bus ride took forever, or even the pool slide was no fun...I start to panic. Feeling like I have spent $4,000 on this vacation and I just want it to be perfect. In fact, about 2 months ago, I almost considered switching to Poly because I heard the rooms were so much nicer. In the end, I just have to pray for the best and hope our vacation is all we have hoped it will be. But I really feel for where you are coming from. I LOVE these boards, but sometimes having so much information on your resort, meals, and fun...can offer so many opinions that some are bound to be negative and make you nervous. I am sure the Poly is beautiful and wonderful!! I hope you have a great time.

Maggie

even though some have shared concerns...I want you to know....

I just returned and had the best time ever. I will always choose the Poly because I love it. I did not encounter rude cm's and the luggage would be a Disney problem, not a Poly problem.

You will have a great time and become a Poly lover too! I am sure of it!

You will find complaints about every resort on this board. That is just the nature of the beast.

I have to agree with the last post. You will find complaints about every single resort here. Just take it with a grain of salt and go have a blast. I almost changed to poly from akl because of things I read but then realized I shoulnt move from a place we love because of things I read here or there. You will have a ball. :thumbsup2 Alot of it is the attitude you have going in. ;)

I'm right with you we, we are checking in tommorow. I'm seriously thinking if we have a problem of switching to GF. Very worried about the plumbing issues and CM's being rude. I should not have to woory with the amount of money we are spending over $4500 for this vacation. To us that's alot of money.

We're getting ready for our 16th trip to WDW - leaving today! We've stayed at most of the deluxe and moderate resorts. It's not uncommon for there to be some irritating little things about ANY resort. But don't worry ahead of time! Overall the resorts are beautiful, the cast members are wonderful, and the parks are fun, fun, fun. That's why we keep going back.

Oh, and if there IS any problem with the room, call the front desk (or housekeeping) immediately, and they will fix it. Don't wait, or stew over it, or just accept it. CALL.

Don't panic! i had a great stay there 4 weeks ago, seemed perfect in every way, and i agree these threads can set seeds of doubt, but just give it a chance first, it might be everything you hoped for, it was for me :goodvibes

Just my 2 cents….If you are that worried and stressed about any resort than switch now, otherwise you are going into it with the wrong attitude already.

I will also say that if you want to stay at a resort that does not have plumbing issues, rude CMs, lost luggage or any other problems than you might have a tough time finding one.

Sorry if this sounds rude, I just think you should be staying somewhere you are excited about before you go.

I think our point is that we WERE excited about staying there, every one of us, until we started hearing reports of very rude CMs and non-functioning toilets.

9 stays at the Poly, the last was Oct. '05 and we're going back this Oct., never had a single problem and loved every second of our stay. I've read complaint's about every single resort on this forum, even the GF, Disney's "flagship" resort. I've worked in numerous resort hotels around the US and you can find something to complain about in even the best hotels. Thing's happen, but don't let it ruin your trip, heck, you could switch resorts and end up having an even worse experience there. Maybe you should read the review posted just below yours.

I understand how you feel. We've made reservations for March, and the nightly cost is huge. If it will be a magical experience, then it'll be great. If not, we'll feel like we've wasted our money.

There will always be good and bad reviews since different people have different experiences at WDW. I think there are enough positive reviews about the Poly that you should have a great time. The more money a hotel charges, the harder it is for them to make their guests feel like they are getting their money's worth. And everyone has such high expectations of the Poly, it'll be hard to wow them.

I read some of those original reviews, and I truly believe those people were not treated well at all, especially for a "deluxe" resort, as Disney calls it. It's really too bad when that happens -- a real 5 star hotel will try to make it up to it's guests, since they want to keep their ratings high. I think WDW has so many resorts, rooms, and guests that it can be easy to lose some people in the shuffle.

I hope you have a wonderful time at the Poly. Since you aren't going there with the thought that the place is perfect, hopefully you'll be pleasantly surprised!

Did I miss something? I only heard one Diser say their toilet had a problem. And she still said she enjoyed her stay! I haven't read anything about rude CM's either.

I am looking forward to a much anticipated Poly trip too. As Tikiman said, you can find plumbing problems and rude hotel staff anywhere. I don't believe the Poly has gone from a highly rated resort, to a run down hotel full of rude staff. If you are really worried about having a bad experience, then switch resorts. If not, I'm sure you will have an enjoyable time.

Yup, you missed something. There have been several threads in the last few days detailing plumbing and CM problems. You might do a search or go back a few pages and you'll find them.

Just my two cents. We have stayed at the Poly 20+ times. we just stayed there a few weeks ago. The only inconvenience was that Captain Cook's was closed. But if you're staying at a resort for the fast food restaurant, you should probably stay at one of the Value resorts. Other than Captain Cooks' everything was fantastic. You are always going to find the isolated incident of problems at every resort. One of the negative of these boards sometimes is that the opinion of one or two can skew the feelings of many. I'm sure someone at sometime has had a hoorible experience at every resort, theme park, or restaurant. Almost everyone I've encountered loves the Polynesian. Stay there.......you won't regret it. and be excited about it!!!

Just wanted to clarify, we were very excited to be staying at Poly. you just worried when you here 2 reports about plumbing within the same week. It just worries me a bit and the things I heard about the rude CM's. Hopefully our stay will be great. pixiedust:

I wouldn't panic i would go in with a open mind and take things said on here with a grain of salt. If you go in expecting the bad things or looking for them you will find them but thats true for anywhere you go. If you go in and just have a positive attitude a smile that goes a long way.

There are two sides to every story so while someone might have really encountered a grumpy CM most of the time the "rude" cm was someone who might have not been able to give what that person was looking to recieve or the answer they wanted to hear.

You hear more negative reviews the positive because people most often are quick to run and post the bad things rather then keep posting the good things.

Just go in and be cheerful and upbeat and have fun and it will be fine. If you have a CM who does a great job tell them. It will brighten their day and if you get a truely grumpy CM then instead of getting upset try and do something nice for them maybe they had something happen and just need a touch of magic themselves.
