What is the best rate you have gotten?

I don’t have 2018 rates handy, but 2017 rack rates for the Bungalows were anywhere from $2,272-$3,824 depending on the season. I could be wrong but I doubt they are ever discounted, nor do I think they are even offered for cash reservations all that often (although it’s been awhile since I’ve checked).

If you can find a DVC owner with enough points you could look into a DVC rental still very expensive running $2200-just over $2900 per night. I guess if you had a larger party that wanted to split the cost it would be a great experience to do for a few nights.

You can check out davids dvc for rental costs for your time frame - the end of the year Oct-mid December is the least expensive for DVC season.

Actually, Jan, Sept and the first two weeks of Dec require the fewest points for DVC. Oct, most of Nov and the second half of Dec (except for the holiday) require a few more points per night than Jan, Sept and early Dec.

I did see it offered online many times(cash res).

They were being offered before the units were declared to the DVC condo association. All of the bungalows are now part of the condo association, as are the studios, so I would expect less availability for both unit types. Disney own 2-5% of the resort's points, and get other units via trade, but now that it's all DVC-owned, they don't have developer units to let.
