Poly availability?

Hi,
Sorry for the flurry of posts from me, but I am booking my first DVC stay...

I am in the process of booking BWV (home resort) for 2 weeks in December 2016 but at 7 months, I would like to try and change part of this reservation to a different resort.

Our preference would be a monorail resort, but from looking at the brilliant Booking Pattern post I can see that this is going to be tough.

So, I was wondering about the Poly DVC (not yet covered by the above) - am I likely to have success booking a studio there for December at 7 months? Also, which one is more likely to be available - Standard or Lake view?

Our other options are Wilderness Lodge (also tough I think) and Saratoga Springs (looks better)

Thanks :)

Poly has not been around long enough, and not enough has been sold, to establish any reliable pattern yet, but for Dec 2016, I believe you will have a decent chance to get Poly at 7 months but you will need to act quickly exactly 7 months out. Poly has a huge number of studios and by the time you will be reserving in May it will still be a long way from selling out and have more room space dedicated to DVC use than Poly owners can fill, thus likely creating a good chance of getting it at 7 months out. At the same time, if open at 7 months, you are likely going to have a lot of competition from owners of other resorts trying to get it and thus you will need to act at exactly 7 months out.

Note that if you really intend to change your reservation partly to Poly, then you should consider making two separate reservations for BWV at this time, one for the period you will want to switch and one for the period you want to keep BWV, and do not have MS link the reservations before trying to do the switch. The reason: if the time you want for Poly is a separate reservation you can attempt to change it online at 8 a.m. at 7 months out; if, instead, you have just one continuous reservation for BWV and have to drop days to reserve Poly, that can only be done by calling MS at 9 a.m. and thus you lose one hour to others trying to get Poly.

There are a lot more standard view studios than lake view and lake view studios have usually filled first.

Thanks very much. I think I will set it up as two reservations now then, as you suggest.

I think BLT would be our first choice but maybe Poly is a better chance (and not much in it), so perhaps I will go for the Poly!

It's all about space use. If you need to pull out the couch in BLT, you have to move the one table somewhere, and people will be squeezing past that folded out couch for balcony use if desired.

Most people would tell you BLT is tight with both bed surfaces in use.

Hmm, interesting thanks. 20 sqft less than BWV etc - doesn't seem a lot, but maybe that makes a big difference?

I notice that the Poly Studios are big!

It's a completely different layout than any other DVC studio. Living area space was dedicated to the walk in galley style kitchenette. I've grown to really love the BLT studio but there is less living area space so as mentioned if you needed to use the sofa sleeper it would be tight. For 2 people I think it's quite nice and for a family it will just depend on what your comfort is for a space.

VWL will still be under construction so you might want to skip it for now.

I have no experience booking December, but I can tell you that we were able to book a Poly lake view studio for the week of July 4th at the seventh month mark. That is a very time, so I was actually quite surprised at the availability. I would love to stay at BLT as well, but I'm afraid a studio would be too small for our family. Good luck!
