Are the Poly and the Cont. today the same as they were upon opening - as far as room numbers are concerned, or have they been added to over the years? Perhaps even immediately after opening. I guess what I'm asking is are all the rooms that are there now, were they there the day the resorts opened?

And if they were added on to, does anyone know if the subsequent rooms were bigger than the original ones?

Thanks.

I know they definately added longhouses to the Poly after opening, I'm not sure when or how many. I'm almost positive the garden wings at the Contemporary weren't orginally there either. The rooms did not get larger, they either stayed the same or maybe even smaller than the original rooms.

Tokelau, Tahiti, and Rapa Nui are the newest buildings at the Polynesian. I think their room size is larger than the other longhouses. I know that the hallways are definitely wider. Refer to Tikiman's site. He can give you all the specifics on the Poly. His site is a great resource for those considering stays at the Poly...and those planning returns!

Susie, what is Tikiman's URL? We are debating between Poly and Contemporary for our March trip. Don't know much about either. Thanks for any help.

Its www.tikiman2001.homestead.com.

Be ready for information overload. This website is so in-depth but very very helpful. It helped me plan my trip. You almost can't pick anywhere else after looking at his webiste. I know I'll be there in 17 days.

good luck.

I'm pretty sure the Garden Wings were built along with the tower in 1971. As far as room sizes, the Contemporary has experienced many a renovation over the years (most spectacularly when they reviewed that grotesque hot-orange rug on the second floor and Grand Canyon Concourse!), but the room have neither shrunken nor increased. It still has t he biggest standard rooms on property, with the Polynesian a close second.
