POLL: Would you EXPECT coffee after dinner?

No, and nobody I know in my circle of friends do either (we're in our 40s). My parents, however, always did expect coffee after dinner.

You won't get it at my house. I don't own a coffeepot and have never bought coffee. DH doesn't drink it either.

I don't drink coffee and thus do not have a coffee maker (or coffee). So, my friends know not to expect coffee when they come for dinner.

At other houses it is usually offered.

I don't drink coffee, so no, I wouldn't expect it. However, I always serve it with dessert at a meal with guests because DH will drink coffee no matter what time it is--so he automatically gets it ready to serve with dessert.

My parents and DH's parents are the same way. And while my parents aren't coffee drinkers, we always had one of those old perculating coffee makers in the house, for when family or guest came over. One of the neighbors always let mom have some coffee grounds, so she wouldn't have to buy a whole can.

Neither DH or I drink coffee, but we do have a maker, that we use every holiday for his parents and anyone else who may want some coffee.

When I lived in the NYC area after dinner coffee and dessert was an absolute must and to not offer was considered an insult. But, now that I am in Pa it is not to be expected here. In fact, here in the Leigh Valley parents often time Sleepovers and Birthday parties so that all meals will be fed at home by the parents. In NY parties and gifts were extravagant as everyone took turns throwing big parties to take turns hosting nice events to be enjoyed by everyone, here the name of the game is to do as little as is humanly possible and every little event is scrutinized for being a 'gift grab'. I have had to tone things down since moving here so I'm not seen as too showy and keep with what is customary here.

It's all in the culture so it's only rude when it is to be expected. I don't know how things are where you are going but if you have to ask I would probably guess it will be a no.

If you are talking about having dessert after dinner at a friends house, then no I wouldn't.
If it was a formal function/dinner then yes I would expect coffee to be served.

In Puerto Rico we drink coffee all the time like 3 times which for me it's a little too much coffee for a day lol

My DH is PR and he and his whole family are like this. Anytime they come over a pot of coffee gets made. We go to their house and she makes coffee. Doesn't matter the time of day and it's strong and loaded with caffeine.

I don't expect anything when I'm at someone's home for dinner.

I do always offer a pot of coffee with dessert and usually decaf. Normally dessert comes about 30 minutes after dinner while clearning away dinner dishes, serving up dessert while making room for dessert.

Nope.

Heck, in this day and age of healthy eating, I wouldn't even expect dessert after a light meal.

A several course dinner party, then yes, I would probably expect dessert and coffee.
