Poll-Will disney force you off site with their cuts?

If the question is regarding how would it affect us personally, I'm a DVC member. So if they said something was for deluxe resorts only I'd probably get it. Maybe not, who knows. anyway if I've already got DVC, why go offsite.

At any rate I don't have much feeling one way or the other about who gets fastpasses or EMH or how long EMH is. Those are not building blocks of my WDW trips at this point.

I can definitely see them offering extras to those who spend more. The reaction of some may be to go offsite - but the reaction of others may be to spend the extra and get the perks and that's what Disney would count on.

That being said, cutting down the EMH doesn't really bother me. Last time I was there we stayed for EPCOTs EMH and by the middle of the second hour they were already shutting down things, which I thought was really annoying.

This is likely why they are doing it. With some exceptions here and there, the last hour is pretty deserted (I'm really only familiar with the MK EMH but that's the big one, can't imagine the other parks are more crowded in the last hour.) That's great for the hardier guests, but not for Disney; Disney loses money when they have to staff an empty park.

I.m not one for FP and rarely last for EMH hours so any cuts related to these would not affect me staying on site.

The only thing that would have me considering off site is if Magical Express and the park buses were cut. I despise driving a rental car, and would most likely vacation closer to home rather than rent one. Who knows who did what, when in that car. EEWW.:confused3

If they get rid of EMH all together and if I have to pay for parking at the resorts/parks then I will probably stay off-site. There's no sense for me staying on-site. If they get rid of the bus service.. yep.. bye-bye on-site!!

If they cut all of these perks I will be upset but I will still stay onsite because of the convenience. We do enjoy the EMH though so I hope they do not cut it. We usually stay at Moderates.

DH and I were discussing the proposed cuts to EMH and he said perhaps its part of the plan to cut perks to those staying at the Value and Moderate resorts-I know theres long been conjecture that eventually FPs will be just for Deluxe guests. Which made us start to ponder-if Disney do remove fasptass for all but Deluxe guests and cut EMH altogether would we stop staying on site? (We are Value people and could not afford to stay Deluxe-even moderate was a splurge for our Disneymoon! )
So what do others think? Hopefully this is not the way its heading but who knows whats in the pipeline....

I doubt they will remove fastpass for all but deluxe. There may be upgraded benefits for deluxe but I doubt they will remove fastpass for others. It would alienate too many people. They need the people who stay in value, moderate or offsite.

I won't go off-site. There haven't been that many cuts, and the few they have made don't affect me. I've never made it to the 3rd hour of a night time EMH, not matter how much I intended to.

I still find the dining plan to be a ton more food than I can eat, so I don't miss not being able to get an appetizer. And I like the fact that they added the refillable mug to the basic dining plan, because that I use!

People keep crying Cuts Cuts Cuts when Disney has added as much or more than they have cut.

I agree with this. Anything Disney has done this far to "cut" things hasn't bothered me one bit. We always returned within our FP window, and I avoid evening EMH like the plague due to crowds. I'm even fine with the *gasp* napkins.

I rarely use Fastpass as the rides my kids usually have shorter lines (i.e. my son loves the carousel and would be happy to ride it fifty times, same with teacups, etc.)...

EMH - we have never used since we visit five times a year we dont feel the need to be at the Park that early or late...

We stay Deluxe and Moderate (depending on the deal we find)... We dont use DME since we drive up.. We just like the activites and to be emersed in Disney Magic in the hotel as well....

And for the record it was never the rumor that Disney would cut FP's to all but deluxe resort guests. It was rumored that deluxe guests would get the priveledge of the XPass first, which is not replacing the fastpass all together, but is a separate system that allows you to reserve ride times from home like your ADR's. The FP system isn't going away. And it was just total speculation that only deluxe guests would receive the "benefit" if you want to call it that.

This is how I see it. I can't imagine Disney will ever do away with FP just like I can't imagine them ever doing away with Magical Express. In addition to guest flow control, both are key elements in profit generation (the former allows guests to spend more time in gift shops and restaurants and the latter keeps guests on property).

As described above, XPass is a separate system and even if they beta test it first at deluxe resorts, my bet is that it will eventually be made available to all on-site guests & DVC owners (altough guests at a higher resort category may have access to more XPasses and/or a slightly earlier XPass reservation window). The flip side of this is that you can bet they will leverage this to jack up rack rates across the board.

FWIW, I couldn't give a hoot about EMH being cut. We're in the rope drop crowd with young kids. So we never pick a park with morning EMH (don't want to have to get up too early) nor do we pick one with evening EMH because we're never in a park that late.

But when you add in this cut to the other cuts and changes in the last few years, it makes it more likely we'll look at other vacation destinations than we might have otherwise. I'm not saying we're never coming back, just that it's not the slam-dunk choice it used to be. I don't think we're really Disney's target demographic, anyway. They seem to be marketing pretty heavily to first-time visitors who don't really know any better.

:thumbsup2

My general answer is that over the years I spend less and less money at the mouse world. We stay onsite primarily because we own dvc.

As another poster said, disney is still a nice vacation but it is no longer the slam dunk decision it was. In fact now more and more, disney is our "if we have no where else we can go" last resort.

I totally will not be pushed to off-site by the cuts. Everyone is getting mad because of that last hour at night is now gone and there really isn't anything now to show a reason for going to night EMH. Morning EMH while is only one hour gives such a light crowd that it is the equivalent of that last hour of EMH so I think it won't be an issue. Also, I'm sure the crowds will probably still be low in that second hour especially with all the other cuts involving EMH.

I say on a CM discount, so it's still cheaper for me to stay onsite. If it gets to the point where it's cheaper to stay offsite, then I will stay offsite.

We already stay offsite most of the time. We like having a car and the extra room and there are other wonderful attractions in the area that get most of our attention.

Usually. We will be onsite the next time plus we won't even have a car for most of the trip. Disney sent a pin and I couldn't resist.

I have not heard that this was their plan. I think people hear one thing and tend to guess at what Disney's ultimate goal is. IMO I can not see Disney ever doing away completely with perks for value and moderate guests. I do not even ever speculate at what they may do in the future. I will just wait and see when they make announcements and make my decisions then.

Universal is building a 4th hotel that will be their version of a "value" resort. The new resort will not have the free express pass feature for guests that the other 3 (Hard Rock, Portofino & Royal Pacific) have, so this idea of giving more to higher paying guests is entering the scene.

I hope Disney does not go the same route. The Disney Deluxe resorts are just way too expensive for my family and there is no way my husband will visit someplace that he feels like a 2nd class citizen. (we almost always stay moderate) I hope that makles sense. :goodvibes

But the difference is this new place never had it before. We're talking about taking something away that was available before. I think it would cause alot of animosity. Some people who don't understand fastpass already make comments about those in the fastpass lane ("look at them, they are special"). It could get ugly.

I agree with this 100%. I like evening EMH, but we've closed down a park once in 9 trips. I don't purchase the dining plan anymore anyway.

We don't utilize EMH and rarely use FP (just rather get to the parks at opening and get it all done so we can leisurely enjoy the rest of the day)...so cuts won't effect us one bit...
