We are going last week of January for 7 nights. It's our first stay at the Poly. :cool1:Its the resort we've always wanted to stay at; well this year we are taking the plunge.pixiedust: Anyhow, we have the money but is the Theme park view, lagoon view, or standard view the way to go for our first stay at the poly? I just don't know what to do, we're currently booked standard room. Thanks for the input in advance.

We're not ones to pay for views and, IMO, there aren't any bad views at the Poly, so a garden view (standard) would be my choice. With that said, we are trying Poly CL next summer, but if we weren't spending the extra for CL, we would book another GV before spending extra on LV or TPV. Good luck.

We had a GV room in Tokelau, beach end of building and it was great. We just had to walk out to the beach to see the Castle. Or lean out our balcony, looking to the right you could see Mk too. And Tokelau has balconies on all floors.

Thanks for the responses so far, I about forgot with the current special we're booked under the lagoon view would be just over $400 to upgrade to for the 7 nights and the theme park view would be just over $700 to upgrade to from standard view. I know that's a pretty good deal compared to normal rack rates. But just wasn't sure if either of those were worth the difference. Thanks

I agree that the Poly really doesn't have a bad view. We've had some really nice GV rooms. :thumbsup2 But I have to admit I LOVE theme park view! If you can afford the splurge I say go for it! :goodvibes

We have stayed 3 times GV and 1x GV CL. Going back next week for our 5th stay GV CL. GV (now called SV) is one of the best SV I have ever seen. For less than the price of a TPV room in a regular building, you can stay GV CL. You may not have a TPV from your room, but you have all of the CL perks plus you have the lounge to watch wishes, EWP while enjoying the desserts in the lounge. Whatever you decide, I hope you love the Poly!:goodvibes

My vote is for garden view. The garden views at the Poly are especially nice. As you contemplate your view selection, keep in mind that there is a major construction project (new DVC building) next door at the Grand Floridian. If you have a theme park or lagoon view, you will also have a view of the unsightly construction site from your balcony.

I booked last week with the RO offer and got what they call a "standard view." Is that the same thing as a "garden view"?

We are going that same time frame and It is our very first time at Poly also and its the "one" we have always wanted to stay at also. We booked standard room also and if they give us something else then so be it. I think we will be just thrilled to stay there no matter where they put us.

We loved our GV room, Niue facing the Volcano pool. But if you can swing the $700 upgrade to TPV, I would do it. I loved watching Wishes from the Poly pool, GCH and beach. It would be lovely to watch from your own patio or balcony.

Have fun at the Poly, take time to enjoy the grounds, GCH, beach and walk to the TTC at night (the path is lovely)

When I made my room only reservation, I asked if we should do TPV or GV CL. The rep suggested doing the GV CL because, for essentially the same price, you get all the perks of CL and you can enjoy the TPV from the CL lounge. Looking forward to going next month!

If you are only going to stay in your room and look longingly at the castle, then get a Theme park view.

If you actually plan on GOING to the park and touching that castle, then any room will do at the POLY!!!!

Just think of how many Mickey ice cream bars 400 can buy, not to mention all the other goodies and photos and stuffies and shirts and ......

Smiles!!!!!

I found theme park views somewhat overrated after the first hour, we were not in the room enough to justify it , well at least not conscience in the room, sleeping doesn't count

I was actually just contemplating this today! We have a standard view booked but for $1183 more we could do a TPV. I would LOVE to get a TPV. If you're currently booked lagoon view and it's $400 more to upgrade to TPV, I say go for it!!!

Also think about this, as some people have mentioned, do you think you will be in your room enough to enjoy the view? If you want to save more money on your room you could request Samoa pool view or Fiji marina view. I've just seen pictures of Samoa pool view. We always stay in Fiji marina view which is also a great view.

We spent 3 nights in a GV room in the Samoa Longhouse and really liked it, we were there the end of August. We had the view of the Volcano Pool, however I know that on the other side of the longhouse you can see the quiet pool. It was also really close to the GCH which was really nice. Have a great time, you are going to love the Poly :goodvibes.

For me, $400 or $700 is a few meals, $700 would prob be my weeks dining. I really don't think it's worth the upgrade. And I prefer watching Wishes on the beach, where they have the music piped in.
I rarely pay for an expensive view, and usually book GV. I'm not hanging out enough in my room. I like my morning coffee on the balcony, and having a glass of wine before going out for dinner, maybe sit out and read during a mid day break if I'm not in the pool..and I might sit out for awhile at night before bed, but it's dark and you can't see much then anyway.

We debated between TPV and GV on our most recent trip. Since the price for TPV and GV CL were the same, we went GV CL. It was our first time staying CL at the Poly and we loved it!

If you are thinking of splurging on TPV, but don't know if you will be in your room enough to justify it, I say go for the GV CL! Still a nice view of the quiet pool, plus all of the CL perks! It was wonderful to come back from a long day with the 2 year old and sit in the lounge with drinks and dessert while watching Wishes!
