Since this will not be a family vacation, I'm trying to spend as little as possible so a value resort would be most preferable for me.

As of March 24, the Half Marathon is now 80% FULL. I need to go ahead and register soon so that the influx of people registering at the last minute don't keep me from being able to register for the race at all.

I know you guys are working on this...but wondering if we can get an update.

I am planning to book my September trip on Monday and hope to know the budget for this trip by then, so any details you guys can provide would be helpful as I do some very last minute planning. :goodvibes

Thank you guys so much for what you are doing!! :thumbsup2

Once we have the group set up you will be able to register for the marathon even if it closes to the public.

Just wanted to second what Kathy said. We've been assured by Disney sports, that we have guaranteed entries into the races once we have an offical group. Even the Goofy Challenge, which is now closed, we would have entries too.

I'm already registered for the full. Would you need to somehow associate my registration with the group then?

I realize that we would have a spot. (Which is great!!)

But if, after hearing the price and what packages are offered, I decide that I need to go out on my own (even possibly to stay with a friend in the Orlando area), then I would have to register as a single participant...and I am afraid it may fill up by the time I get enough information to decide.

I want to go with the DIS Unplugged team...but I have never done a package deal before and not sure how it works, how much it will cost relative to going out on my own, etc. Do they take into account, for example, that I already have an AP...or would I have to buy tickets? Are we all together in a block - this, even if more expensive - might be good since I am traveling completely on my own. Or if it is a moderate resort that is chosen, how much more will that add to what I would do on my own? Does it include travel? If so, what form? :confused3 I just am unsure about the unknown, I guess.

Maybe I should not worry because any deal Dreams Unlimited can work out will be better than the any deal I can get on my own? I just have never done this before.

So even general details my help...if that makes any sense. And someone can PM me, if that is easier to answer these questions. Although I am sure I am not the only one worrying (I am now worrying as opposed to just wondering) about these questions...am I? :confused3

Or, if we are able to associate a registration after the fact...should I just register and associate myself later depending on what I decide? Maybe that is the solution to my problem. :confused3

I am in the same boat as you. I'm not sure what to expect.

As soon as we have confirmed details I would be happy to share details. We haven't made any firm decisions yet. There most likely will be rooms and packages available.

Good to know. However, if I am staying at AKV, will I still be able to join the official group without buying a package?

I've looked into room blocks a couple times for the WISH team, but we never had enough folks interested. If you go through WDW, rather than Disney sports, you can get a block that you can split amongst hotels. So you could have a value, moderate and deluxe option that suits everyone. The number of rooms required is pretty small (I think it was only 10 or 15 rooms). The prices were comparable to AP/FL resident rates. It does not give you registration for the races along with your room packages.

We might be interested in a block option (DH wants to stay on the monorail line this year), but we've both already registered for the races.

Hi Mel: We're going to have an official team through Disney Sports. This is going to be a little different than room blocks we've looked into in the past. We'll keep you posted on things. I'm very curious as to what rate they come back with. Dave

I haven't signed up for any events yet because I am on the fence about going Goofy. I had planned to use Marathon Tours and Travel because I know they have registration openings. If you think you will aso provide event openings, I will hold off until you find out more.

We will definitely have race registration openings. Guaranteed! :thumbsup2

Would love to join in the group rates :) thanks so much for looking into this!

I voted for Value since we already have a room reserved at Pop but could possibly switch to mod or deluxe if the price is right. There's already 3 in my room running the 1/2 and maybe 1 more added so the price would be split pretty well!

Just a quick note to anybody who is interested.

The Goofy Challenge has been officially re-opened and there are 2500 new spots up for grabs. So if you want to do the challenge you won't need to get an entry via Marathon Travel or anything like that.

Hi everyone!
I've been wanting to do this run (I'm interested in the 1/2 marathon), and the roadblock was convincing my husband that this was a need to do for me. We found out recently that a family member was benefitting from GKTW (2 y/o with leukemia:sad1:) this summer (I think), and that was all he needed to be convinced!
So, I saw that the 1/2 was 80% full, and also see thru the posts here that there will be slots available thru DIS's team (which I'd like to be part of). I think I saw that there was an additional thread on the run and who was interested, but can't find it right now :confused3. Can someone bump it up or kindly explain to me how this works?

Thanks!

Many of us are DVCers as well. So maybe something in the BW area so that DVCers can stay at BWV or BCV. :thumbsup2

Thanks!

And I put my 2 cents in for a value....as you can see from my tag below, the Med cruise is sucking up my budget for next year...!!!

And/or I'd be interested in the Swan/Dolphin as I can get the nurse discount there....but that said, I'm unsure as to the logistics of getting to the course at this time!
