Okay, I just heard from an aquaintance who recently returned from a cruise on the Wonder. I was kind of surprized at one of her comments... Then I started thinking that I have heard similar comments a couple times before.

This is basicly what she said...

As far as the fellow passengers...I don't know how to say it without sounding sterotypical and snobbish. To be blunt, and please, please, please don't be offended, my husband described it best as trailer trash. Again I'm not trying to be rude but just the definition of what it means. There were people that we kept bumping into that were rude, pushed in an obvious long line, didn't correct their kids when they knocked someone down, or bumped into me, etc. There were some others that were not well groomed. It is one thing to be poor, but to be dirty? I don't want to focus on the negative because there was so much positive. I was just surprised because Disney is so much more expensive that we ran into some of the people we did. I guess money doesn't equal manners....

I tend to believe what this person says... And, I really do not think that they were being 'snobby' at all ! They have been on other cruises... like Carnival and other lines... so they are speaking from experience.

I am thinking that there may a difference between cruises on the Wonder and the 7 nite cruises on the Magic???

So, for all of you experienced DCL cruisers... What is your true opinion??? I am posting a poll for those of you who would like to vote anonymously. But, I would really like to hear your comments as well!!!

I think you're playing with fire to generalize the families on any cruise line. :)

The kids I have seen on the cruise in 10 DCL cruises have all been just regular kids. Mostly well-mannered, a few not so, regular stuff. Certainly not anything CLOSE to "trailer trash". And that goes for the Wonder too. The Wonder definitely has a more casual atmosphere than the Magic so perhaps that accounts for some of the differences.

Just like at the theme parks, DCL attracts a huge melting pot of folks. The vast majority of them are nice people, no matter what they wear, how they speak or how they parent. :)

Thanks Michelle! :D

I am really not meaning to start any 'flames'!!! (Please, no flames here folks!!!) That is why I thought doing an anonymous poll might help. But after hearing a similar comment twice in a row now, I just couldn't help but ask! :jester:

I saw SO Many cute families wearing matching outfits, excited children, and such nice people. I only had one experience with a rude adult (not worth mentioning) and most of the kids were kept close to mom and dad. NOW....I have only sailed during the "off" season, while school is in session. SO, that may be part of it.

Wow Wishing on a Star this sure has the "possible makings" of a good old flame war... :)
That said I think that you'll find all financial and social classes represented. To categorize the people on the cruise line as "trailer trash" is like waving a red flag in front of a bull on this board.
People with no manners, rude and ignorant can be in Category 11 cabins or staying in Concierege suites. You'll find them on Celebrity, Princess, Radisson, Royal Caribbean and the S.S. Guppy. I found the Wonder great along with the folks on it. I saw NO ONE that would fall under that description.
Sorry but I won't take part in the poll as I can't see it is possible to give a truly informed answer.
Anyway I think you make the cruise yourself. If a few people are dirty, rude or dressed properly, ignore it. You have spent good bucks to be with your family and friends. Enjoy YOURself and let them carry on.
Cheers,
Grumbo

Out of our 8 DCL sailings I have never seen trailer trash...well, one guy one who who wore the stained tank top to dinner, but that was just one time.

I find the people on DCL generally are well dressed and well behaved. There is always going to be a few rotten apples but you cannot generalize a category of one type of person onboard. There are people from all walks of life and all financial backgrounds.

My advice would be to sail for yourself and see. What one might think is trailer trash, another might think of as casual.
