Since this is the budget board, I voted offsite. My kids are all adults now, and no matter how I crunch the numbers, staying offsite is much more affordable. We enjoy our space and stayed at Windsor Hills last time, which is so close to the parks. Although Disney is the majority of our vacation, we do other attractions in the area. But when they were young, it was onsite everytime. And someday I would like to stay at the Yacht Club.

I voted "onsite" because I will do everything I can do to stay onsite for a number of reasons, not the least of which is the transportation system.
However, I have stayed offsite and if I had to choose between staying offsite or not going at all, offsite would be the most awesomest thing in the world!:lmao:

I picked onsite but I have stayed off-site. Traffic is the reason I prefer on-site. Sooooooo very many tourists and soooooo very many ways to have an accident. I prefer to park it and let Disney do the driving.

Thats a really good point. My dad and DH are much more relaxed not having to drive, and more fully enjoy their vacation.
My daddy said WDW is the only vacay where he fully feels like hes actually away, since he's not busy navigating finding the way, parking, tolls and so on.

But if staying off site is the only way we could go, I'd do it! Better off site than not at all! :thumbsup2

I would stay at the GF on site every year because it was perfect. Since 2008 The off site hotels offered much more to make me consider plus the cost is sometimes $3000 less! The Gaylord Palms offered free coach transportation to and from the parks everyday, free internet and the hotel was like a mini indoor theme park. This year the double tree is offering free pool parties every night, free transportation to the parks, newly renovated resort. The price is so much cheaper plus I get hilton rewards for staying. Saving $3000 is a lot and these off site hotels beat the disney value resorts in quality.

I like the convenience factor of being on-site. I hate driving on vacation, so I love the bus system and have never had a bad experience with it. The only thing I don't care for too much is the limited food options if you are on-site. But I always pack some breakfast foods (and my own coffee - Disney's standard issue stinks!) and try to pick healthier food options for some of my meals.

offsite---

With 4 people there really isnt anything magical (IMO) about being crammed into a hotel room for a week.

Give me an offsite condo / townhouse and we get our own bedrooms, kitchen, multiple bathrooms and the like and aren't stuck in a small room tripping over each other.

Last summer we had a townhouse in Windsor Hills for $699 total for 7 nights. We even had our own private pool to use. It was wonderful.

For many years Judy and I stayed onsite. But we always had a rental car. We would sometimes be down for 30 days during four or five trips in a year. For the last few years before we moved down here we started staying offsite at the World Center Marriott using Government rates which included free breakfast buffet daily for both of us. And since it is just a mile off the property line it was a very fast commute. We had the equal to a deluxe room for a value price.

Every time I've run the numbers for us, it's cheaper to stay offsite and rent a car. We're forced to travel during school vacations so onsite lodging is much more expensive than offsite during those times of year. In a few years, we're going to go to WDW for a long weekend after Thanksgiving to see the Christmas decorations and we'll probably stay onsite then for the first time. (well, I stayed at Ft. Wilderness in 1990)
