Poll on a DVC at the Disneyland Resort

I'm interested in peoples opinions on a DVC in California at the DLR. It would be off the the Grand Californian, known as the Villas at Grand Californian(VGC).


If at all interested, send a letter to the following address, expressing your interest in a DVC at DLR.

Without a doubt we would use our OKW points at VGC. We stayed at the hotel for a few days in January 2003 and thoroughly enjoyed it. We likely would visit every other year for a week or so at a time. We've become accustomed to exceptional OKW accommodations and find a hotel room insufficient and the suites at GC to be more expensive than we're willing to pay. DVC at DL would suit us just fine. As much as we love WDW it would be very nice to visit DL on an occasional basis.

I guarantee that we would use our DVC points at VGC, or any DVC property near Disneyland. We are looking into adding on points, and if these points became available before we made our purchase, we would definitely purchase there. My husband's family is in California, and we make frequent trips there. As it is now, we exchange our points for stays at Disneyland.

But I'm assuming that all of this is hypothetical, right? Just so I don't get my hopes up.

We haven't purchased DVC yet, but are probably going to do so in the next 2 weeks. We would definitely use our points at Disneyland. We have only been there once, but are planning on visiting again sometime in the future. I would be more motivated to do so if we could use our DVC points for a villa.

I voted for rarely or never. We fly out of Newark or JFK. Orlando is a quick, relatively inexpensive flight. Around 2 hours I think. Plus, our family is really happy with Disney World. Of course, if others want it, I hope you get it!

Not on my to do list. I go for the total escape and I am not really a MK fan so DL just isn't for me.

I voted "would not purchase, but you use points occasionally". I LOVE the GC (I actually prefer it to WL)...the only problem is...I'm NOT nuts about Disneyland, and there is no "resort-side" to hang out at when you tire of the parks....no, I would not want to own there, but it would be fun to go there once every 2-3 years for a couple of days...but, I think I'd rather spend my money on more BCV points!!!!

With the GC overlooking Downtown Disney, a great pool area, many restuarants, direct entrance into DCA(putting you right near soaring) GC is better located and more of a resort than just about any of the existing DVC's.

I wonder if people don't realize its less than a 5 minute walk into DLR, and 2 minutes into DCA or Downtown Disney. You can easily spend 4-5 days just between those two parks, than take a quick trip to San Diego for the day to visit Sea World, Legoland, Animal Park, or the San Diego Zoo. Throw in the fact that Knotts Berry is less than 15 minutes away, this is a great place to go every 2-3 years.

Were talking riding a great rapids ride, then walking 2 minutes and drying off in your room. Grab a fast pass to soaring, ride TOT, watch a show, ride soaring, then grab a drink in your room. Grab fantastic food, listen to a concert, see a movie, then back into your room in 2 minutes. This hotel sells out at $250-350 a night for a basic room. It is easily the best located Disney Hotel around when it comes to park access.

Additionally they have land purchased for a 3rd park, and are expanding DCA. I'm telling you guys, this is the prime location for a hotel.

I am not talking about "suppositions" here. And, I am not speaking without experience or knowledge (as I have been to DL over 5 times in the past two years). I am merely expressions my opinions based personal experience.

Knott's Berry Farm is disappointing, at best (although Camp Snoopy is cute), San Diego is (depending on traffic) a minimum one hour drive away, and for the cost of DVC, I would like to take a vacation where I can "immerse" myself in the "Disney experience". I agree that having a DTD location is nice, but really...does it go with the "turn of the century" expansion theme? I LOVE the hotel, but I don't think the theming necessarily "blends" with the modernest DTD theme. Plus, when I go to WDW...RARELY do I ever go to DTD...it is just not my thing....it does not seem "Disney-ish" to me. So, having to walk thru DTD to get to my room is not a "plus" for me.

When I go to WDW, the BEST part for me (and the reason I pay BIG bucks to own DVC) is being able to "lose" the real world. Having 4 theme parks, two water parks, and numerous other activities on-site (horseback riding, carriage rides, miniature golf, etc.), plus MANY resorts to explore...I can EASILY spend two weeks at WDW and still be begging for more. I have NEVER been able to do that with DL. After 3 days on any trip...I am ready to go home...the whole DL "complex" leaves me feeling "claustrophobic" rather than relaxed.

My point was not to "trash" DL, but just rather express the feeling that, unless the DL points were "discounted" (yeah, right!!!), I would much rather buy more points at BCV than invest my money in something that cannot hold my interest for more than a couple of days at a time. I'm sorry if it seemed to you that I was not recognizing all the wonderful things DL has to offer. I am well aware of them...but, they are not enough to make me want to spend the kind of money DVC would be asking for those accomodations.

I would LOVE to be able to use my DVC points there (reasonably), as I live in Phx, and it would be much cheaper for me to travel to DL than WDW (hence, 5 trips in 2yrs), but if I am lucky enough to move closer to WDW...well, I wouldn't even look back (except I would DEFINITELY miss the "world's best corn dogs"!!!! Now, WDW definitely needs to "get the recipe" on those"!!!)

But, look at the bright side....that will certainly leave more points for DL lovers like yourself!!!!!

We would probably visit occasionally and might even do an add-on. My in-laws just bought a small condo in Orange Cty and will probably retire there. There really wouldn't be enough room for our family, so staying at a DVC would be the perfect solution.

My Family lives in California so whenever we visit, we like to go to DL for a day or two! I voted occasionally because we get to California about once every 2 years. The rest of our hols are in Florida1

We tend to go out to Disneyland every couple of years. I would love the option of a DVC resort out there. Wouldn't buy any more points (I think we have enough now) but would definately stay there if available.

I know that I go to DL more the WDW, partially because it is so much closer that the travel is less stressful. I don't have to change planes or change time zones or spend all day traveling.

At least one of my nieces and one of my nephews actually think that DL is more fun the WDW.

The summer weather (when kids are not in school) is far more tolerable in California than in Florida.

Ken, what is your thought process about writing our opinions to Disneyland Execs about DVC? You think they have any pull of getting something there? Based on what just the few people have said here, doesn't sound as though the majority of existing dvc-philers are intereseted in owning a piece of the magic -but then again I could be wrong. Any other polls taken to support this? Love to know...

Well, we do live closer to California than Florida, but we also like to visit DL. We like that it's smaller than WDW! I find it more relaxing.

Based on what just the few people have said here, doesn't sound as though the majority of existing dvc-philers are intereseted in owning a piece of the magic -but then again I could be wrong.

I've been thinking about that. The majority of DVCers already own in Florida, so obviously traveling to WDW is something they most likely do on a regular basis, so we might assume that they're closer to WDW than to DL. Thus, owning in DL would be less desirable points for them when they could have points that would get them a better reservation at WDW.

However, I think that opening a DVC resort at DL would open up a whole new market. DVC would be able to bring in the people who were interested in a DVC membership but wanted to travel to DL with rare trips to WDW, and decided that it wasn't a good enough value for them.
