Our old MB still work - makes us feel like we are on vacation the moment we put them on!
Good Info. How are old are they, Rscfa? We haven't been back since pre-covid over five years ago. We still have our Magic Bands from from our last trip, and even some going back years before. Any chance they would still work? Hate to pay for what used to be free, but also hate to have to pull out a card every time a check-in is needed.
Hope you all are having a great weekend! :goodvibes

ALL Magic Bands will work for everything that requires you to tap Mickey's head (room door, park entry, LL tapstyles, payment, etc. It doesn't matter how old they are. As long as they are still connected to your MDE account, they will work. Battery is irrelevant for those functions. Even an uncharged MB+ will work when you have to tap something. I have dozens of original Magic Bands dating back to 2013 and they all work just fine for everything important.

@Fangorn above is right - they'll work for all tap functions. The only thing they won't do is link ride photos over the air for rides that don't have a photo tap point at the end, like Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, and that deficit can be overcome by having MDE open on your phone and allowing it to use Bluetooth.

I'm so happy to hear this news that all the old magic bands we have will still be useful for what's important to us!
One more question, if I may. Will the front desk at our resort(s) need to scan them or (re)record them somehow?
In the old days, the plastic 'Key to the World' was all that we ever needed, but after paper fast-pass disappeared more tap-ins were required, so that's when we came to appreciate the convenience of the free magic band that Disney provided. Honestly, in the quantity that they issued I doubt that they cost them more than 25 cents a piece so everyone was happy. Now something like $35 each??!!! , and have to recharge them like a phone?!!! No wonder they're selling FuelRods in machines in the parks now..but don't want to start that rant.
Anyway, since pics and 'special interactions' aren't important to us, knowing that our old magic bands are still good to open our room doors, tap into parks and rides when needed, and being able to do a room charge at DW restaurants and shops is great news! It will make our trip that much better!!
Many thanks again for the great info, and hope you all are having a magical day! :goodvibes

DO you have to take time out of entering the park? Like you have to go to guest services before entering? Could you do it the day before at Disney Springs somewhere?

You can definitely do this from the Ticket Center at Disney Springs prior to your day in the park. We did it this past February and it worked great.

Check your MDE account, under Magic Bands and Cards. If the MBs you want to use are marked Active, you're good to go. If they're marked Inactive, tap there to make them Active again. If MDE says Lost or something else other than Active, then when you arrive I would go to the front desk to have them re-activated and linked to your MDE account. (There might be a note with a phone number to call - I can't remember.) Of course, this needs to be done for each person who's coming and for each MB you plan to use.

As already mentioned, if the Bands show as "Active" in your MDE, you should be fine. UNLESS, you're staying at either Beach Club or Yacht Club. If that's the case, you will most likely need to stop by the front desk and have them activate each person's band for use at that resort.

What’s different about YC/BC? We’ve stayed before and never had an issue with our MBs. Is this new?

Storm-a-long Bay. It may have changed (it's been a few years since I've stayed there), but previously, when they gave out free MBs, old bands would not work (only the one for the current trip). I talked to several managers there and the idea was that people were trying to use their old bands and giving them out family/friends not staying at Y&BC, to get them into SAB. All resorts have the ability to limit MB usage at the resort to a single band (as opposed to every band attached to your MDE account), but only Y&BC have ever actually done so.

But, again, it may have changed.

Last time I was at SAB, a cm with an iPad scanned our bands.
