Poll: How long did you wait to vote?

I really was discouraged by how long the lines were at the polls yesterday. I wonder how many people couldn't vote because they didn't have that amount of time off from work. I really think in this day and age, we could figure out a way to speed up the process. I waited about 1 hour, which wasn't too bad. But, I also had off yesterday, so work wasn't a concern for me. The one area in our county made the national news on ABC last night because people had to wait 5+ hours to vote. That is insane!

So, how long did you have to vote?

From the time I arrive to the time I left was 1 hour and 1 minute. I didn't think it was that long, I was expecting more. Funny thing is when I asked everyone else (friends, family . . . ) they were all less than 15 minutes.

It took me less than 5 minutes to vote.

Just under an hour -- 50 minutes to be exact.

There was a long line when I got there but someone asked if I had already registered, I said yes and she pointed me to another line that had 2 people in it. I got my envelope then got in line behind one other person, got my ballot waited about 30 seconds for a stand to open up and was done

Same here. Picked my child up from school and went directly to vote...luckily I missed the morning and evening rush

I watched some of the election on TV last night and the length of time it took people to vote puzzled me. Why does it take so long, what is the process? In England, we get a registration card through the post, go to the polling station and exchange that for a ballot paper. You then go into a booth, where there's a pencil tied to a piece of string and put an X beside the name of the candidate you want to vote for. The whole process takes about two minutes. Is it vastly different to that in the US?

We live in a small town so there was no wait. Just walked up to desk to sign in, gave us the ballot, voted and walked out.

Took under 10 minutes for me & Chris, and Chris actually had some problems because he wasn't on the list. But, they found him and we're all set.

Voted at about 12:30 PM, No wait.

No line when we got there. Signed in, got my ballot and waited maybe three minutes for a booth to open. Even with having gone over my sample ballot and knowing what I was going to vote on each one, it still took about 10 minutes because of all the judges, state amendments and county referendums. When we vote, it's not just for the President.

Wow, these posts are really surprising. It must just be a regional thing here in PA but everyone I know waited hours, not minutes (and this was at various voting locations). I wonder what we are doing wrong in PA?

No wait at all for me either. Walked right in, checked in, got my ballot and voted.

Brought DD4 with me and she kept asking me if I was going to win and why wasn't I running.

Here in Cleveland, many waits were in the hours. The only reason my wait was under an hour was because I got there at 6:30am. My DW waited an hour and a half at 8:30am.

I also voted in PA, andt he line was hours all through out the day. My mom, myself, and my father all vote in the same polling place. My mother went at 7am, it took her 2.5 hours. I got there around noon, it took me 3.5 hours. My dad (who unfortunately couldn't get out from work early) got there around 5:30, and it took him longest, almost 5 hours. Also, as he was there, a fight insued because there was NO MORE ROOM for a line to build, and people were furious that they weren't going to get to vote. On top of that, the line was outside, in chilly weather, and there were many old people, and some with physical disabilities that had to wait in the same line. It was really upsetting, and we absolutely saw people walk away, and heard them say they couldn't wait in this line.
