It amazes me how many people 'skip' the Animal Kingdom...I'm just curious as to why. DH and I love this park...and if time permits will attend 2 or more times during a trip.

Just curious as to why people skip it. I know there aren't alot of 'rides' there...but we still find the park fascinating.

If I had to skip a park on a WDW trip, I would choose to skip Disney-MGM Studios over Animal Kingdom. DH and I both love the Animal Kingdom, and we enjoy our visits. I love the theming and the attractions (Kilimanjaro Safari is positively incredible!). Plus, neither of us ride thrill rides and generally speaking we're not huge stage show buffs, so Disney-MGM Studios isn't our style as much as AK is.

Oh I totally agree...MGM, in my opinion, can be done in half a day...but I personally rather hit up AK too!

MGM really needs some help...hopefully the new attrations (new stunt show and new backlot tour) will improve this park some.

If I were to skip anything it would be the Disney MGM Studios. While I like Sunset and Hollywood Blvds the rest of the park is spotty at best. I like the ToT and Great Movie Ride but can skip everything else. At the AK (other than Dinorama) I can meander and spend the whole day.

I'll admit it . . . .

I'm a skipper of AK. :o

We do go to AK but only every other year . . .we did it last year and probably won't do it this year.

We just don't enjoy it as much as MK or Epcot . . .We really don't stay too long at MGM either . . .

I like to do all the parks if I have time, but if it's just a one or two day trip, I will usually skip AK and/ or MGM. If I have at least 3 days, I will usually be at AK for one of the days of my trip from park opening to closing.

Unfortunatly, I agree that MGM has also turned into a half-day park for me too. I usually seem to spit it with EMH Morning at MK. It's my favorite park after MK, but there doesn't seem to be as much to do anymore. Hunchback is Closed, Dougs been closed for quite some time now, Backstage Pass is closed, the Backlot Tour is a skipper now without the Residential Street, Rockin' Roller Coaster and Playhouse Disney just arn't for me, and I don't think I would ever waste any more time doing Sounds Dangerous again. That limits me to less than 10 attractions in the park that interest me (not counting the parade and Fantasmic). Plus I'm not a big stunt show person so I'm not that excited about either Indy or the new one they're building.

We have a short 3 day Wonder cruise booked for October and so we are planning on staying one night at AKL and going to AK for the day and then heading home on Monday......:hyper: :hyper:

I love AK and we have always wanted to try the AKL and so this is our chance and I know we are going to love it and want to book a longer stay......::yes:: ::yes::

I really like AK. I think it grows on you, because I like it more each time I go. MGM is becoming easier to skip (except TOT).

I have never been to AK, but only because it has been so long since my last trip to WDW. I grew up in Southern Cal and all my family is still there and so they make us visit all the time... this year I put my foot down and told them they can come see us here in TX, we are going to WDW. I feel like this is my last chance to drag my 17 year old there for awhile. Already he is staying with a friend instead of in the room with us (which saves us enough money to feed his friend, because we will fit in one room).

It has been 8 years I think... way too long. I can't wait to see AK and have 2 days planned for it. I thought maybe we missed something at MGM 8 years ago because we were so done after 1/2 a day. And that was with an 8 year old. We really thought MGM would be his favorite, but He was an Epcot kinda guy (still is).

Blah blah blah, I talk too much...

:D

I don't know how I could skip Animal Kingdom. I love going there to see the animals on Kilimanjaro Safari and everywhere else in the park. The rides are fun, the atmosphere is great, and you can actually have fun AND learn at the same time. It doesn't get much better than that...unless, of course, I'm at the Magic Kingdom.

The Lion King show is a must see for DH and myself, as well as the Safari. We've spent time on busses talking to people who say, they never go to AK because it's "just a zoo." It's not and we try to tell them that, but who knows if we would ever convince anyone with that mindset.

We will skip AK next time. I don't believe I have a 'mindset' but we didn't find it that interesting. The only thing I truly would enjoy seeing again is the ITTBAB. We aren't big animal lovers and didn't actually see many on our safari ride anyway.

On the other hand, we love MGM and could spend all day just going to Millionaire, Indy, ToT, and RnRC.

I have friends who aren't Disney obsessed & can't imagine why we've been so many times and what we could possibly find interesting in MK when that is the "preschool park"!

That is what makes Disney so great - there is something appealing to everyone!

It's Nahtazu! ;)

A trip to WDW without seeing Festival of the Lion King and at least 2 trips on the safari is just NOT a trip to WDW for me. :)

We dont skip AK. If we skip any park its Epcot. We love MGM and MK pretty much equally--we could not skip either one of those.

I don't know if we are missing something at AK but, it is not one of our favorite parks. We have actually only been 1 time, we are going again soon and we will give it 1 more shot. My husband disliked it so much I had to argue with him to get him to even go back. I love Disney and have been at least once a year since I was 3, sometimes as many as 3 times a year when I was a teenager. Someone please let me know what I am missing at AK!!

I'm starting to feel some people here. I could probably spend about half the day at MGM for The Great Movie Ride, RnR, Beauty and the Beast Show and Fantasmic!, other than that, there's nothing else there that really floats my boat. Oh yeah, must have lunch at Hollywood Brown Derby too! :jester:

DH and I love the AK. We have tons of pix from the safari as the animals were out in full the day we were there! We also really enjoy the Lion King Show too.

We skipped AK on our last trip because most of what we wanted to see was closed. It was September and still warm enough, so we opted for Typhoon Lagoon since we'd never tried it before. Great change for us because the kids loved the snorkling reef. For us, it was nothing more than just wanting to try something different. I hope we never run out of new things to do! :teeth:

I like animals, and we get a zoo membership in whatever zoo is near where're we're living. We were at the AK in December, and noticed the gorillas walking around their areas and some had blankets. I talked to a CM about it, and they have a rotating cashe of little extras for the animals, to keep them interested in their surroundings so they don't get bored. Now, I think that's a nice idea. I can learn something each time I go, and it's always fun for us. We are empty nesters, and enjoy It's tough to be a bug, and each time we go, we see new things on the tree of life.

Did you see the Festival of LK, and not like it? We had seen it in nosebleed seats on Broadway, and yes, it was great there, but I like AK's version too.

Tarzan Rocks wasn't my kind of show, but we had 2 mid teens with us once, and they enjoyed it. I was so impressed with the skateboarders that I was glad we went, what a perforamance!

If you gave AK a try and don't like it, fine, it's just that we were on the bus talking to people who never went and just figured they wouldn't like it because it was "just a zoo."

oh no! i love ak. if i had to skip one it would probably be epcot. but i wouldn't want to skip any of them!

I'm with many of the above posters, I would skip MGM over AK...well, as long as I could just ride RNR and TT real quick and then leave!
Billmel...don't know if you and your hubby like adult beverages, buy you could hang out at the Dawa Bar in Africa, watch the limbo dancers, watch the parade, and have a lovely day! That was my new discovery this past trip! We just chilled out...no rushing, no worries. :)
And for you ladies out there who appreciate a nice-looking muscle man, Tarzan does Rock! heehee!!
Festival of the Lion King is also great. And...be sure and look for Devine! We saw her last trip...weird, but very cool!

cheers!
