Political - Why can't he admit a mistake ?

President Bush on Monday said that "knowing what I know today" he would still have gone into Iraq.

That's right: despite the numerous intelligence failures, the complete lack of evidence of any kind of significant link from Saddam to Al Queda, the non-existance of Saddam's massive store of WMD's, and the total failure of the "peace" process following the war, he would STILL unilaterally invade that country.

WHY is it so hard for him to admit he made a mistake ? Does he honestly think this country is full of people gullible enough to have supported a war against a country that had no link to 9/11 and was no kind of imminent threat to our security, had they known it going in ?

I would have supported the war anyways. I said in the very beginning that I don't care what weapons he [saddam] has or doesn't have, he can't treat his people that way. It's my understanding that while Saddam wasn't involved with 9/11, he was very interested in Al Queda.

Getting rid of Saddam is not a mistake.

I have no love for George Bush. I think he's a puppet and an idiot. That said, if he'd admit to being wrong and apologize to our country, I'd have a little respect for him.

a little premature to say total failure, and the country may not be FULL of people who would have supported the war, but there are certainly those who would have supported the war, and why does having a differing opinion than yours make them gullible...

I also support the President's decision to go into Iraq. Incidentally, that doesn't make me dumb or gullible, I just have an opposing viewpoint.

What does this have to do with removing Saddam? Because we can't take out EVERY evil dictator, we aren't ever allowed to do the right thing when we can? This "excuse" always strikes me as incredibly lame!

wvrery, please give me your definitions, in the context of your post, of the words "significant link" and "total failure"?

And I would have still supported the war, knowing what we know now. Does that mean I can't admit I made a mistake? No, it means I think Saddam was going to be a continuing danger and the best way to deal with that danger (and liberate 25 million people in the process) was to take him out.

How exactly is that lame? First we are protecting america by getting rid of WMD's. Then, because there were no WMD's, the Bush administration changed its tune and claimed that we were at war to free the Iraqi people from Saddam's control. By that reasoning, we should be freeing many other countries from their dictators.

We were lied to. It amazes me that some American's think that's perfectly ok and justifiable.

The fact remains that he has made our country look like bullies that don't care what the U.N. has to say.

Should Saddam have remained in power? Probably not but I don't think that it has been worth all the lives that have been lost.

ITA. There's no way the majority of Americans would have tolerated our attacking Iraq just to get rid of a sadastic leader. He had to make it appear like we were in imminent danger. What the real reasons for getting rid of Saddam are anyone's guess. I don't anticipate we'll be invading any other countries to free its people any time soon.

Saddam had weapons of mass destruction. And was seeking Nuclear capabilities. Every world leader and intelligence agency has agree on this for the last 15 years. Do you have some information that disputes that.

No one from the Bush administration ever said Saddam had a link to 9/11. What they said was there is a link to terrorism. That has been proven to be correct.
