Political News: Ranks of Poverty stricken and Uninsured Grows by Millions

Well, then, this man is committing a crime, and you should report it. Period. He obviously is NOT making less than that amount, just reporting less.

Nothing says "family love" more than turning relatives into the IRS.

I guess I typed something and didn't even realize it...where did I say or imply that they shouldn't be considered poor?

What I did imply and what I am flat out saying now is that getting by on $18,000 when you are receiving free housing, free food and free medical care isn't quite the same as getting by on $18,000 when you aren't receiving any of those benefits.
Um...ok...I'll agree with that...I guess I don't see your point then...Also, don't forget that $18,000 is the upper threshold, not the median...It's likely that the largest part of those millions of people make considerably less than that threshold.

Should we not be concerned that the ranks of those classified as under the poverty line has grown considerably in the last year, since they receive all this "free" stuff ?

You get to complain about the abuses of the system only so long as you don't stand by and ignore someone blatantly abusing the system. Otherwise, it just makes you a hypocrite. Relative or not.

I guess our definitions of "considerably" are different. I don't consider 4/10 of 1% to be a "considerable" increase.

I'm sure the 1.3 million people you just write off are touched by your concern  :rotfl:

He is doing something ILLEGAL if he is getting paid "under the table"...Do you understand what that word "illegal" means ?

And I tell you, I'm just shocked! Are there really people out there ILLEGALLY skimming off the federal government?

Hmmmm... interesting. Thanks for expressing your opinion. I'll take it under advisement.

You'd be amazed at what some people are capable of... and what others (in various gov't. offices) are capable of ignoring. People like this don't show up on the "radar" even if someone sits there and uses a laser pointer to highlight them. It would seem that it takes too much time and effort to do anything about these small "fish"... it's more lucrative to invest time in the big catches or just retire at work and still draw your salary. That's been my experience. YMMV.
