Political comment (sort of)

I'm a relative newbie to these posts (although I've been reading them for a while), but I couldn't help but notice that some of the signatures contain some strong political leanings.
Now, I am as partison as the next person (I mean, I am a teacher in Western Massachusetts--I'm a victim of my own demographic :D ), but the aspect that impresses me the most, that despite some pretty intense "apparent" disagreements, members of the DIS boards (and especially the DVC!) are primarily interested in helping each other. I've seen people respond to each other with courtesy and kindness (and with political differences that could, where I live, come to blows).
In my humble opinion (IMHO, so important that I had to spell it out), it is perhaps the most optimistic aspect of this election year.
So, basically, and fundamentally, thanks.

Thankfully, it does seem that Disney is a common ground and perhaps a place where political differences don't matter quite so much. Refreshing, isn't it?::yes:: that we can put our differences aside and appreciate things that are important above and beyond like spending time with loved ones and the values that we all share.

--Just my opinion:
I have very strong political opinions, but I refuse to air my views in a signature line here.
This is a place where I like to have fun, and get away from all that other stuff.
Sometime I think people look at one another a little differently if they know your politics differs greatly from theirs, and I would hate to see that happen amongst us here.
Politics can bring out some very strong emotions, and I just don't think this board is the place.

That being said, a thread devoted to politics on the CB is fine, as I can decide whether or not to read it.

Again, just my opinion...

As is so often the case, I agree with MG completely. (Unless of course we are talking about the post he did earlier today that I disagreed with). I could have written what MG just said.

One nice thing you can do on the dis boards is to simply turn off the signatures so you don't have to see them. Just go to "User CP" and then to "edit options" and turn off signatures.

I wouldn't dream of putting a political signature on the DIS board. I also wouldn't dream of trying to censor anyone else who does choose to do so. The American political dialog is pretty messy sometimes, but the freedoms that make it messy also make this the greatest country in the world.

Interesting comments. I didn't add my political signature line until after I saw such strong differing views posted by others attacking the president with false statements. I felt there needed to be better balance, so I included the opposite extreme. However, I'm still seriously considering a write in vote for Colin Powell, as I have done previously, so my signature might not as strongly represent my views as it may appear.

I do appreciate the comments posted that despite differences, people help each other, and that some keep it to themselves.

Happy posting and happy voting.

Sorry if you've been offended. May I suggest that you go to the User CP and select options where you can block them.

Hey, thanx for the tip, HBC. I'm not sure I was aware of that feature. :D

For the record, nobody here has offended me with their signatures. When I see politics, I just opt not read them. If I can't help seeing something obvious, I just remind myself that reasonable people can disagree. ;)

I agree completely!! There are people on these boards who I love talking to, and their political beliefs are COMPLETELY different from mine!! As long as they love DVC...I don't care if they are republican or democrat!!

I think during election years, we often get caught up in how "different" people are...but really, we're all just people!!

I do think some of the sigs, are funny (and some get me a little ruffled)...but, mostly I will just be glad when we can all go back to just being DVCer's again!!

I agree 100%! ::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes::

Yeah, what Maistre G, HBC and Dr T said! :)

I think the OP's original intent, to congratulate people of differing political interests for still helping and supporting each other....well, I agree with that too! :)

Well said.

I guess the comments don't really bother me as I always vote Republican for President, and coming from Rhode Island I'm a rare bird indeed. I know what I want despite reading the negative Northeast press. I'm a much happier camper now that there is a fox news channel and I don't have to ONLY listen to the biase Dan Rather's of this world. Its good to get both sides of every issue...but I find the democrat always turns me off eventually. LOL Most of my good friends and some misguided family members are democrats but I certainly don't hold that against them. I like to think I'm just more advanced in my thinking. Putting on the flame retardent suit now :)

Did you say you watch Fox News to get both sides? Do you mean Bush's and Cheney's????? :teeth:
PS You only need the flame retardent gear if you disagree with them! ;)

Anyone watching Hannity and Colmes certainly could not tout this as an honest statement. Each presents thier respective viewpoints well. I appreciate the greater degree of balance offerred by Fox as opposed two the obvious documentable bias from the other networks.

Talk about elitism.

I agree with DrTomorrow's agreement with HBC's agreement with MG.
