Policy on Adults in Costume

I think it's Disney's job to interpret and enforce "the rules", not the guest's.

If you have a concern about another guest, regardless of what it is about, speak to the nearest CM about it.

If the CMs are obviously aware and okay with what's going on (ie, they're dancing the Macarena with a girl who looks like Alice), then reserve your complaints for an e-mail to Disney.

Personally, I'm rather hoping Disney has relaxed its policy on cosplay. I don't do it myself (it's an expensive, time-consuming hobby!), but as an author I regularly work conventions, and I love seeing how creative and joyful people can be.

When are kids allowed to be kids these days?

When, other than in EXTREMELY modern times, have kids had the luxury to "be kids"?

And why should fantasy be "for" kids? IMO the thing that kids do that is different from adults is that they can create fun and interesting things in their heads at any moment of the day. My son can put a piece of cardboard around his arm, tie it on there with yarn, and he IS a knight. When I was a kid, while pulling my shirt off one night I discovered that if I left it there on my head hanging down my back, I felt different. Most girls would feel like a bride, right? Nope, I felt like Winnie the Pooh. And I liked it.

For adults, those things aren't going to cut it, except in the privacy of home, LOL. And adults are the ones with jobs, the ones that can go out and buy wings to wear EVERY day, AND they can usually be trusted to keep their $100 wings nice and pretty and unbroken. (unlike if you buy it for a typical kid)

I'm sitting here wearing a shirt my SIL bought me from Comicon; they go every year, now, and while they don't dress up, there are tons and tons of people who do. They have the money and the time and the ability to put together amazing costumes, and they have FUN with it.

I was thinking about this idea and this thread earlier, and it hit me that this might be one of DisneyLAND's policies that has come over to World. Land experiences Bat Days, which are Goth days. They have the "Candy Kids" come in each year. From my understanding, they celebrate the Rave culture". And it totally makes sense that Rave kids like it there, since they have hosted what is basically a rave for years now, in the form of Mad Tea Party, Tron-whatever, and whatever the other name for it was. (I avoid it. It bugs me. So I'm not sure of the name.) Both groups of people dress in a most interesting fashion, which has probably pushed the limits of the "no costume" policy for years.

DLR saw the end of their cast parties last year, to get Land more in line with World, who doesn't do such things. And maybe this is a DLR policy, since the line between Disney costume and adults dressing *interestingly* CAN be a fine one, that has come over to WDW.
