policy for changing group size

What would happen if I called and made resverations for the Hoop Dee Doo for a party of 8 and then several months before going called and changed it to a party of 7? You see the size of our group is not set in stone and probably won't be until Feb. or March (we are going in June) and I am worried if I wait too long I won't be able to get the Hoop Dee Doo for the night we want. I am also worried that if I call several months ahead to change the party size, I won't be able to get in at all.

While, I am asking, how would this also work with Priority Seating for any of the park restaurants.? My experience at Disneyland has been if you call and change your party size, they totally cancel your PS and then make a totally new PS, IF there is one available for the new party size. Is this true at WDW? This shouldn't be as big of an issue as the Hoop Dee Doo because by 90 days out, I should know how many are coming.

Same at WDW..you have to book a new ps/ressie, and then cancel the old one..so if availability isn't there when you want to book..you are out.

What do you think would happen if I made reservations for the HDDR for 8 people and then later it turns out that only 7 of us are going and I don't call back and tell Disney? Would they just charge me for 8 and 1 seat would be empty? I know that would be a waste of money paying for someone who is not there, but if I have trouble changing my reservation to a party of 7, I'm wondering if that would be an option for me.

I don't know if sit-down restaurants are the same as HDDR, but when I made PS, I asked the CM about changing party size, because we thought DH grandma was going, but were unsure. The one I was concerned with was the Fantasmic package mostly. They said if she didn't go, I needed to call and cancel one person, otherwise we may be charged for her.

Also, another CM (a different day) told me that a table that seats 5 will seat 4, so it should be no problem to reduce party size. When I called back to change my PS to 4 people (gma is not going), the CM canceled some and made new PS for a party of 4, IF there was a table for 4 available. On the two that weren't, she said just to tell them when we got there that grandma couldn't come and it would be ok.

For the Fantasmic package, they simply canceled one person.
