Pokemon GO In the Parks?

Disney Springs had a ton of pokemon once the servers were back up, plus what felt like a pokestop every 10 feet. I think I stopped at about 20/25 stops - 1 egg, lots of pokeballs (90ish total).
It also had a pretty good variety - normal, poison, and water type pokemon. Just in the walk from AMC to the Lime Garage, I caught 6 pokemon. Probably could have found more if I had wandered through a little more.

There was at least 1 gym on the West Side. I didn't walk the whole Springs so not sure what was on the other end.

I'm pretty sure Disney will be an easy way to hatch eggs as well. 3 miles is pretty tame at the parks

Also saw a bunch of other people playing which was fun. It's definitely a fun experience at Disney :)

To be honest, I wondered if Disney might not have The Pokemon Company and Niantic (developers of the game itself) black out the parks-- suppose they still could in the future. They might not want to have to train face CMs to figure out how to respond to "there's a Pikachu on your shoulder!" or whatnot.

I'm pretty sure there would be a riot if they somehow got Niantic to black out the parks, especially now that everyone knows it works there.
The characters can handle snapchat filters pretty well, I don't think pokemon will pose a threat :)

Hopefully not :)

Would this game work with an IPod? One DS is really into Pokémon but I am not about to buy him a new phone. He does have an IPod though...

It looks like iPods do not have a GPS chip in them, so they cannot be used to play this game

To add to that, even if an Android phone meets all the specs listed on their website (Version, GPS, Wi-Fi, etc..) The VR part of the game will not work unless your phone has a gyroscope sensor. You will still be able to play the game itself, but not being able to use the VR sort of takes the best part out of it.

Are people seeing the different types of pokemon around WDW property? from what I read it sounded like some traveling might be needed in order to get into the type of enviroment that isn't around you.. is WDW a 1 stop shop for this game if you hit the different theming around property?

The varieties of Pokemon seem to vary pretty widely...though with my office being such a big hub we've been getting all KINDS of stuff. I've got about 40 different types, of which probably 35 were all caught at or near my office!

A bunch of us are going to the National Mall tomorrow to see what we can pick up by all the monuments. ;)

Mine were all pretty basic last night at DS - Weedle, Ekans, Magickarp, and Pidgey were all plentiful. I did get a few powerful Venonats (their power makes me think they may be a little more rare), and some others that are generally more rare in the games like Eevee Golduck, and Pinsir. Ponyta and Charizard have shown up at work.

From what I've seen, most people are getting the basic ones around their home. Leaving home is where the rare ones show up no matter where in the world you are located.

WDW might be a 1-stop simply because of the volume of pokemon in the area. But I doubt all 150 types can be found here

I'm trying to play on an iPhone - Got my account created through the trainer club (finally!) but I can't get connected via the iPhone... the pokeball just spins...no fun!:(

Yeah, the servers have been hit REALLY hard these first couple of days...best time is to play in the morning on the east coast, before noon. At 9 PT when all the kids/teens/college students start to wake up, the servers get super sluggish @_@

Pokemon Go uses all the portals from Ingress, and yes, they're everywhere. I've been playing Ingress for years and I've played at WDW.

So today I drug him downtown to IKEA (for muscle purposes but promised him Swedish Meatball lunch) ............... mostly interstate ................ oh my. They were all over the interstate but more difficult to catch (maybe due to speed) but he sure was trying and he said several were more rare ones. Surely if they are using a google map etc thing they can program it to have none on the highways. There was even a few in the van, one on my arm!!!!!!!

Also we were driving by a spot not far from home where there is a something store/gym, I don't know. There was a teenager standing there on his phone. DS said he might have to go on a walk and go back tonight and claim back something ..... I don't know. If they can get the servers to not crash this could be a huge hit. The new Farmville?

Tip: Turning off the AR stabilizes the position of the Pokemon and makes them easier to catch since it puts them in a static environment rather than the constantly moving one with the camera on :) (when the pokemon is on the screen to catch, there's a toggle in the top right corner)

Thanks for that tip!! I just started playing this and have no clue what any of it means really, but it's kind of addictive!
