Pokemon Go at Disneyland

My DD was wondering why people were all staring at her shoes at one point holding their cell phones last week at Disneyland. :rotfl:

Honestly, the game itself is great in that it gets kids up and moving.

The company that made the game (as well as ingress obviously) is owned by Google. That's why it uses Google Maps for your geo location.

Also people just need to learn to use common sense. Obviously locations are not updated in real time. There's a guy whose house is a renovated church, and it's a pokemon gym in the game, so he's always got people wandering outside his house on the sidewalk.

Originally it was coded so that you were granting access for full control of your google account - reading and sending emails, personal documents, pictures, etc... I believe I read today that it has been fixed since that article came out.

It's so much fun and my whole office and work complex who employs several big name companies are all in the courtyard at lunch setting lures and talking Pokemon , I love it !!
Yesterday we were at a local downtown area an=d there were tons of pokestops and a group of 30ish people outside Starbucks and walking around all catching pokemon and having a blast.

I've seen more adults than kids playing which is awesome to me.

My son's are 22 and they like it because they used to play when they were little. At Disneyland now and several attractions have said there are no pokemon here in this show so put your phones away.

I am assuming they are in their late 20s - early 30s reliving their youth.

Some yes , I'm 38 and my hubby is 37 and I work at an office complex that covers the span on late 20's to 50's ALL playing. It's great to see such a wide range of people coming together without any kind of prejudice if you will.

I'm in my early 30s, but it's less "reliving my youth" and more "I've been playing Pokemon games continuously since they were first released in the United States", lol! This game is a long time dream come true for me.

I have a Mew I've been trading up between games since link cable days.

Pokemon Go Disneyland Take Over

http://www.yelp.com/events/anaheim-pokemon-go-disneyland-take-over

People trespassing, running into trees, getting hit by cars, and falling off cliffs. They guy who hit the tree is lucky to be alive. I don't see how Nintendo isn't going to be sued multiple times over this.

Much the same way Ford is not sued for each bad driver, Nike is not fined for each jay walker, Apple is not sued each time someone with an iPhone does whatever people do with iPhone's. It's called "Personal Responsibility" and there needs to be more of it.

Agreed. There are certainly no shortage of irresponsible people all over.

There are already lawsuits being filed. We'll see how it shakes out.

I can just see everyone looking for pikachu (or however you spell it) in Tomorrowland....and then people getting trucked by the rest of us trying to get to Space Mt.

There's a big warning every time you open the app that tells you to be alert and pay attention to your surroundings. Nuff said. If people are being idiots, that's on them.

To be honest, after I read this thread, yup, I downloaded it and am now playing it with my daughter. I'm 47. My daughter is 21 and we are gearing up for Avengers race in November. We found that we ended up running longer than we intended because we were playing and I also noticed she picked up her pace. A win-win for us.

I was in Downtown Disney yesterday and also Trader Sam's. There were tons of people playing it, mostly adults. Yes, I looked at their phones to see if they were playing it. :P Everyone I ran across (and it was a lot of people) seemed smart and aware of their surroundings. The people not playing it weren't aware of their surroundings and I had to keep dodging them - true story.

Since this game is basically a remake of Ingress, I asked an Ingress player why Ingress was never in the news for all these dangerous things happening to players. Her response was that Pokemon is very popular and therefore has a lot more players, of which there will be more [not smart] people playing who don't pay attention to their surroundings. I concur. I don't think the problems with the game have anything to do with the game, but with the players themselves.
