poison ivy ?

I have been suffering this weekend from a horrible case of poison ivy...it is so itchy I just want to SCREAM

Anyway, never having this before, I was wondering, is it contagious to other people? I'm trying to keep it uncovered to let it dry out but no matter how many times I tell the kids not to touch my arms, they end up doing it anyway. Please tell me they can't get it from me...

DH had the worst case any of his family had ever seen last year. It was all over both arms, bad, bad,bad. I won't go into detail, but he was really miserable. (he is very suseptible to it) From what I understand, it is not contagious from touching the sores, even if they are open. (sorry-yuck) However, you have to wash everything that could have come in contact with the ivy, AND your skin before you washed it off of you. The oil from the plant transfers very easily.

I hope you are feeling better soon. DH finally went to the doctor after living with it for a week. The doctor gave him some cortisone, I think and some other stuff that helped some. Maybe you should have it checked out. There's no use in suffering if there is something that can be done, right?

DS had poisen ivy a few years ago. I took him to Dr. and he said that it is not contagious.

I get poison ivy so easily but it's not contagious. However, make sure you wash the clothes you were wearing in very hot water and run in the dryer on a high setting. If any of the oil is still on your clothes you or your children can get it from that.

You might want to buy some tecnu. It works wonders!
