We are thinking of becoming DVC members.

I am waiting for some info to be mailed to me, prices, etc.

Can someone tell me how the Point system works?
How many do you need before you can use them for a week ?

They told me I would get 150 points to start.

Thanks for your help.

Start here with the FAQ

Personally, I don't think 150 is anywhere near enough to start with. They have lowered the minimum buy in again and again. It was 230 in the begining. Look at the point charts, you will see that 150 won't get much more than a studio for much more than a week.

The point calculator will let you know 'How many points?'

The one bedroom and larger units are really what DVC is all about. The ability to stay at WDW in a Home Away From Home resort is what DVC is all about. And you don't get that home away from home feeling until you have a full kitchen, , seperate living room and dining room, the kids having their own room, a great laundry room....

Read the FAQ, read lot of threads(paying special consideration to my posts), and let us clear up some specifics.

This is an age old discussion. We have 150 points, sure would like more, but they get us what we want. It depends on when you like to travel. We like to go when there it's not as crowded, like Oct-Mar, and warmer than where we're at N. Nevada. We have never stayed for less than a week. This year we are staying for 10 days with weekend on points in a pv at BWV in Oct for 141 pts, but am trying to get std view for like 94 pts. We are only doing studio cause who wants to cook on vacation. That's half the vacation, eating in diff places and diff foods. The 1br has the TUB, but didn't even use it when we had it. We have taken the family down and stayed in 2br and studio. Took a little planning, but you can carry points from one year and borrow from next, so you can have 450 pts available every so often if you need it. Alot of people will tell you, "once you stay in a 1br, you won't go back" but we look at differently. It also depends on how many times you can go a year. We only go once a year and do other vacations. But like I said at the start, it's an age old discussion. Whatever you choose, you won't be disappointed, if 150's not enough, there's more where those came from.
