Points vs location??

Interesting point Stewart715 makes. I am in the process of buying a small BRV contract - only 100 points. However, the point charts at BRV go further for a studio vs a 1 bedroom. Based on Pete's chart probability, 7-11 month ownership at BRV is very important if you want a studio vs a much more point expensive 1 Bedroom which, based on that chart, is pretty easy at 7 months. Not only that, but while I have never stayed in a 1 bedroom there, in the case of BRV both a 1 Bedroom and a studio both sleep 5.
However, the one bedroom only has a king bed and queen sleeper sofa. So your fifth person will be sleeping on the floor, in the bathtub or wherever you put an air bed.

C'mon, you could also put the fifth person in the king bed - those beds are HUGE!

You are buying for the long term. If seven month availability for one bedrooms tightens, will you be happy at home?

You've received great advice so far.

In our case,we've done both.

We've purchased VGF, PVB and VWL (BRV) for resort specific stays usually at the 11 month window.
We also own SSR points to use at any resort. (Including SSR which we enjoy)

I think this depends on your situation. I am 32 with a 2 year old. We've gone to Disney three times in the last year and will continue a similar pace, as that is our family vacation destination. With all this travel, we decided to buy in and I got a 75 point SSR contract direct to seal in the perks. The difference in Platinum Pass to Gold Pass renewals will pay for the points in the next 10 years. We really wanted to buy a resale contract at Bay Lake Tower, due to the proximity to MK, but 100 points there cost the same as 150 at SSR, AKV or OKW. I put in an offer on AKV resale, as the rooms there are a little more popular than SSR or OKW, so there's some home resort advantage. In the end,wWe wanted the most bang for our buck. We have enough points for a 1 BR, so hoping we will be able to move around. And who are you kidding, any one of these deluxe resorts and amenities blow away moderate and value resorts. I would be happy at any DVC property in WDW. You just have to be inside the bubble. But that's my opinion.
