I have two trips planned this year and I added extra days to each. For the weekends, we opted for and got the member discount cash ressie. So I was wondering if this was the best thing to do. I've just been playing with Disney's web ressie system and it seems like I was correct.

For instance:

We're paying cash during the middle of our May trip (the Fri & Sat between May 13-20) at 25% less than rack rate: $352.38 ($472.50 CRO).

The points we'd use up for the same nights are 100 (at $10pp via rental=$1000). So it's a bargain paying cash, right? Even without the member discount it seems that way.

Are there things I'm missing about this? Side question cause I forgot, can you get the member discount at resorts not your home?

EDITED TO ADD: This doesn't seem to work as much in my favor for BWV but does for AKV.

You can get the member discount if available at any DVC resort, make no difference about home resort. We do that often on weekends. If you booked the same size accommidation, you can ask them to link the reservation and you should not have to change rooms.

Cool. Thanks!

I knew about the linking. Made sure we did that. This option seems to work well for SSR. Another point in that resorts favor, I think. BCV and BWV had me spending an extra $25 or so. AKV saved even more than SSR.

The best deal/bargain really depends on how you value your points and your time. You've chosen $10 per point because that is what you believe they go for in the rental market. Based on that, you done good!

Some don't rent points - just don't want the hassle/risk. So they value points at their cost. Purchase price / years of use + dues. Depending on when they bought, that comes out between $5 and $7 per point.

Others value their points at the cost of dues -they consider the initial buy in as a "Sunk Cost". Value per point $4-$5.

Some highly value staying in one place during their vacation time and don't do the weekend math at all! Value per point is very high for these members, LOL

Some value their points by comparing what it would cost to vacation at their home resort to other options.

So you see - there is no best answer without knowing how one values the points and how one values time!
