Points Transfer question

I'm a newbie here, so bear with me, please. I have 108 points that must be used before 8/31/22. I need about 20 more to book the resort room I want. Is this the best place on the internet to find such a DVC owner? Or is there another better place somewhere on the web? Thanks. I'm assuming this is a naïve question for most of you. Do transfers between owners happen often in cases like mine?

Since you are within the 7 month window, just call DVC and buy OTU..one time use points….

You can get up to 24 and they are $19/point.

You only get one transfer in or out so many owners won’t do it for a small amount of points.

I would do as Sandisw suggests, one time use points (OTU) would be much easier to obtain than a small transfer from another member.

I agree with Sandi and Chuck - I'd book what I can online with my points, then call MS to buy OTU points and add the remaining nights. Done! BTW I called MS yesterday to renew an AP and only waited 5 minutes or less on hold, after I got through the automated part of the menu.

Thanks for your responses. I had read about the purchase of a few points each year before I bought the points, but then completely forgot about them. That will be what I do.
So one more question, if I need more points, more than 24, let's say in the 25-100 range, and I don't have any to borrow from future years (or just don't want to), is transferring the best option? And if so, what's the best way to find a DVC member willing to do that?

You'd have three options, transferring from a member (which may be unlikely as they are limited to one transfer a year, and would prefer large transfers), or renting the days you need from another member, or simply renting the room for cash. If DVC Member Services has availability for cash, you may be able to get 25% off the rack rate. I would say the easiest is likely renting the reservation for the days yo need from another member. You can do that on our Rent/Transfer board, or through a rental broker like our board sponsor The DVC Rental Store

Assuming you don't want to buy another contract, you can either accept a transfer or find another member willing to book the nights you want & then sell you the reservation. Both options can be found on the Disboards Rent/Transfer Forum. Be sure to read the Required Reading thread before you post there

Thanks. New ideas to consider. There are so many nuances to the strategy for using these points. I will learn as I go, but I appreciate the wisdom of the experienced pros. Have a great day and thanks for being so generous with your time and experience.

Thanks. More options for me to consider. Have a great day and thanks for being so generous with your time and experience.

I will add that what I have done in the past was get a transfer larger than I needed and used them to free to my own points to cover a few years Of being short.

For example, I got 100 one year when I needed 30. So, I used all of those and it allowed me to bank 70 of my own points for the next years trip and that transfer covered me for a few trips this way.
