Points Transfer Question

If another member is transfering points to me, do I follow their use year/month for banking borrowing, etc. Or do I follow my use/year? Anyone ever received a transfer of points from another member, how did it work out?

We own only BWV and we received a transfer of points for BCV. We were able to make a BCV reservation 8 months out with the transfered points immediately after the transfer. For us it worked. The only thing I have found that is different is the fact that the transfer points do not show up on the DVC website. They track them manually so you have to call to get any information on them.

I am two points shy for a trip to BWV in late June/early July 2009, so I want to see if someone will transfer a few points to me. I will ask on the Rent/Trade board, but can someone explain what I need to ask for? I'm assuming that I would need points that won't 'expire' before my trip, but they would have to be BWV points that are 'active' now so I can book my whole trip at once, right? My points are BWV. Thanks!

You need any points that will be current in June/July 2009 or can be banked into that UY. You cannot borrowed transferred points, so points in, for example, a Dec 09 UY won't help you.

You can receive any 08 UY points. Those would either be current or bankable into June/July 09.

If you are currently in your 07 UY, you can also receive a transfer of someone else's 07 UY points. For example, until the end of this month, I am in my Aug 07 UY and could receive a transfer of Dec 07 UY points. Those points would be "current" for a June/July reservation.

However, if I had a Feb UY, I would already be in my 08 UY. As a result, I would not be able to accept any 07 UY points from any member.

FYI - I just called Member Svcs, and since I'm travelling in June 2009, I can borrow my own 2 pts. from my June 2010 Use Year. Since we're only in 2008, I didn't think that was allowed. Yeah!

It's allowed. It's not when you make your reservation, but when the reservation is for that counts.
