Points that sound too good to be true

I hope she will do the right thing (call me naive :-) ..........Even so, I had some extra points that were going to expire before I could use them and rented them out. I used a contract with this person and everything has gone great...I really think we are talking about a few bad apples.

I'm not going to let this ruin my 10 yr anniversary trip! I'm looking forward to it too much.

As I posted on another thread, I'm curious as to your situation. Did you have an agreement that stated you could cancel and get a refund?

Here is my 2 cents.... I don't think anyone renting points outside of a 30 day window should be asked to send money upfront. The DVC member has full control over the points, they can cancel the reservation if they don't get their money.
While I understand the sentiment, I must disagree with the idea that a member has no risk outside the 30 day window. There are other risks besides just the holding account issue. Thinks like banked or borrowed points, being late in the use year, missing out on other opportunties and banking deadlines all come to mind as being just as risky in many circumstances, sometimes more so. Besides it takes up to a few weeks to complete a transaction if all goes well. 7-10 days to get the confirmation, a day to get it copied, 3-5 days in the US mail (if you're lucky), a couple of days for the renter to mail out a check and finally the US mail again. That's easily 3 weeks in many cases. IMO, anything inside 3 months from travel is shot notice and risky for the person who owns the points.

There maybe light at the end of the tunnel!

I have heard back from the individual in question. (Do I have Doc to thank for this? My gut feeling says he had a hand in it)

He said he made the reservation. I guess I'll find out Monday.
(Of course I was told that a reservation was made before, turned out it had not), so we shall see. I have heeded the Dis boards advice and asked for a signed contract before sending any remaining money, if a reservation is in fact made.

I hope it does in fact pan out. This is quite a turn of events. I heard nothing for days after the first reservation was supposed to have been made, and now it seems a resolution is in sight.
Talk about your highs and lows.

Just to tie up a loose end, Capone is generally known for being sent to prison because of tax evasion. Could there have been mail fraud as well, I don't know enough to answer. Just in case anyone was wondering. :)

I'm a newbie to this whole DVC rent/trade board but a veteran WDW vacationeer.

In planning our current trip (Dec 03), I've been put in charge of trying to make the arrangements. I've been surfing the boards for several months to get a feel for the sense of community.

I'm saddened to see that someone might have been taken advantage of while trying to rent points. However, it seems that for the most part the rent/trade board is a honest community and this is the first time I've read of a deal gone sour.

I don't feel this reflects on the community as a whole but rather the possiblity that there are a few bad apples out there.

I still have hopes that my current plan to rent points from a DVC member goes smoothly! The option of renting points never crossed my mind until I started looking in to the various ways to save money. Everyone in my family is slightly concerned about what type of assurances you receive. Let's face it Disney is a wonderful experience but it isn't always cheap & especially not cheap if you lose out on monies due to a bad deal.

I hope everything gets resolved & you don't lose out on your money! I look forward to seeing how your dilemma is resolved.

Disney! Disney! Disney!

I remember this thread from the summer and I too would like to know how it all turned out. We are thinking of renting some additional points. Have done it once already and it went flawlessly. What happened to you could have happened whether they are reservation points or regular points. My baseline is to trust. Just wondering if this has a happy ending.

i remember this thread, this person left alot of people nerves about renting points that the new threads that were posted right after, read "someone have a rental contract sample" and i do remember reading that dvc came in and repo his points, because lack of paying dues, and i also know some threads were pulled or closed about this person or warned
