Points per night change?

I am thinking about a DVC purchase. One question I have is about the number of points per night required to stay at one of the properties. Do they increase over the years? One area I looked at shows that they have not increased at OKW for the past few years. Is that normal? To truly be a hedge against inflation that would have to be the case, but I am skeptical because the rack rates at all WDW properties have increased every year. I am afraid that as soon as we buy a certain number of points the number of points per night to stay at a resort will be increased. Any insight is greatly appreciated!

The total number of points per year will never change. The points can be reallocated. Certain times of the year require more points per night. Friday and Saturday nights also require more points.

If DVC raises the points for a certain time of year, they would have to make a corresponding decrease in points somewhere else.

The total # of points cannot change. Any increase for a particular season must be balanced by a decrease in another season. Though there's no guarantee that a standard view 1br at BWV will always be 162 points for a week in January, they can't change excessively without a significant drop at another time of year. This makes DVC a pretty good hedge against increasing prices.

If anything does increase it would be our dues...but the amount of increase there is also regulated. So far my dues have only decreased, but we've been members for less than a year.

The total number of points per year to stay at a DVC property can never change. However, there is no guarantee that the number of points to take a Disney cruise won't go up year after year. Or the number of points to stay at a non-DVC resort. The amount of points that it takes to stay somewhere outside of the DVC are renegotiated annually and are subject to change. Sometimes I think we all forget that things outside of DVC are subject to change.

Frozen Piglet you are right about WDW rates going up every year....that's a reason to really look at DVC as an alternative.
