POINTS for DCL 2013????

I just called MS, they said the chart probably won't be posted for a day or two...but I did ask how many points for the March 9th Eastern on the Fantasy (we are 2 adults, 1 child (age 9 at time of sailing) and we always sail in a 5A:

Categary 5a
Adult - 216 pts.
Child - 118 pts (or $823 cash)

I know I'm a DVC newbie, but this doesn't sound too out of whack to me for the new ship...any other thoughts?

so 550 points total or $4050 so $7.37 per point.

If you rented the points out for $9 you would save almost $900 and have a better cancellation policy.

We have decided...for us...not to rent our points and enjoy them ourselves and with our family. We believe renting can be a hassle...not saying it is all the time, just from what I've read on the boards it can be a great experience or less than stellar depending on the clientele.

So we booked this cruise using points for hubby and I, and paid cash for our daughter.

Is it the best use of points? Probably not. But we bought enough points when we joined that we can enjoy some pretty substantial vacations (as you can see from my tickers below) :thumbsup2

I hear you for some the time is not worth the hassle for others (like this SAHM) the hassle is worth the time.

Never forget one very important detail: the points are YOUR points, and no one else's. Some posters here can be very vocal about what is the "best use" of DVC points; however, you and only you know what is the best use of them for your family. :goodvibes

Excellent post. Some folks here seem to have this attitude that if you use your points for anything other than booking at DVC resorts, you are making a mistake and using poor judgement. The thing is - I have absolutely no plans ever to rent points. I just don't feel comfortable doing it. But we are getting tired of going to WDW every year and we love to cruise. So I see us using points for DCL cruises many times in the future. Plus I see us using all our points at HHI more in the future.

We are of the same mindset! We figure if we tire of WDW, we can do our home resort (or other WDW DVC resort) every other year with a trip to either Aulani, Vero, HH or DCL in between them to mix it up! :goodvibes

Wow!:scared1:Just looked at the point charts! Was interested in the Jan 2 4 day cruise. It is $698 cash per adult and 118 points. Points seem way too high to me. Guess we'll think about cash and bank some points.

I don't advocate either using or not using your points towards DCL. We have done so in the past and for us it's nice to know we could do it in the future (the last several cruises have been booked on cash only).

With the above being said - I think you have to remember that when you vacation on a cruise, generally all your entertainment and food is provided in the cost. When you vacation with DVC you are only really provided accomodations - the food, entertainment, etc. is something you have to pay for extra.

Not trying to hijack the thread, but...
DH called MS yesterday (received same info as above for another sailing), but didn't think to ask about a cash rate...am I correct in understanding that that price is different than from the DCL website? Also, can I mix points with cash in the same cabin? We will need 2 cabins (one with me DH and DD and the other with our two DSs).

Also forgot to ask-what happens if we have to change dates? Trying to go over Spring Break, but since we don't know the exact dates, we are guessing, (based on previous years). I know the $95 is non-refundable and the points are considered "exchanged" and can not be used for WDW then, but would another cruise date work, assuming there is availability? Do we lose points? Do we have to pay another fee?

Thanks!

You can mix points and cash for the same cabin (we used points for me and DH, cash for DD).

If you have to change dates, you will have to cancel your current ressie then rebook and pay another $95 booking fee for the new cruise (if there is availability on the one you want to go on).

In terms of points it depends if the new cruise has the same point value as the previous one (so you may need less, more or the same.) Also look a the cancellation guidelines...as long as you cancel more than 75 days before the cruise, you won't lose any points.

Hi there,
No problem, the room booked through DCL was $1,477 for each adult and $1,043 for my son. Through DVC it's $1,460 (savings of $17 per adult) and $955 (savings of $88 for my son who falls in the 3/4 year old category).

I believe you must use points for the first person in each room who must be an adult then you can pay cash for the rest.

I've done it with points for adult 1 and cash for adult 2 on one cruise, and also points for adult 1, points for child 1 and cash for adult 2 on a different cruise.

Hope that helps :goodvibes
