I have 29 points that will be expiring in two months(my use year is June) - if I book a two night reservation for this October via the RCI website(following the link from the DVC site), will these points come out of my current or next year's points?

Thanks in advance :)

You are in the lockout period for the Rule of 4.
You can not book and take a vacation outside of DVC resorts due to this rule.
The Rule of 4 is there to allow DVC enough time to "sell" your vacation through CRO and pay for your trip with the monies received.

The Rule of Four does not apply to RCI (and other World Collection) Exchanges.

They should come out of the use year in which the vacation falls. So the points would come from your 2015 use year (so it will not use the 29 points that expire on May 31, 2015).

You should phone Member Services to ask. It might be possible to 'bank' your points into RCI extending their life using RCI's Deposit-First method rather than RCI's Confirm-First which is more likely match your travel and your UY as CarolMN suggests.

I think the min to bank is 80 but it might be worth banking 80 to try to save the 29 though I doubt it is. The other issue is they must be banked at least 45 days prior to the end of the UY to retail usefulness.

I'd suggest considering renting or something that one can use in the interim, possibly a concierge collection option or the BVTC. Or one might try a "swap" with another member where one traded the 29 limited use points for say 20 points to be transferred in.
