We have made up our minds on signing for the Riviera. I’m fully aware of the resale issues...
Putting that aside, I’m confused about points. If I buy 125 points direct and then 100 off resale I’ll have 225 points. Can I use them
All for one reservation at RIV? Does my blue card benefits extend to a trip with points from resale mixed in it or even wholly on a trip that I’m using resale points?

As far as blue card benefits, that doesn't matter which points you are staying on. Either way you can access the Epcot Lounge, get discounts, etc.

If the resale is also for Riviera and the sam use year, you will be able to use the points for the same reservation at the 11 month window. If the direct and resale are both for Riviera and different use years you will have to wait until both contracts are within the 11 month window to combine the points.

The 11 month window is not based on use year. It is only based on the actual time until the first day of the reservation.

If RIV resale then yes it can be used at RIV and ONLY RIV. If not RIV resale it can not be used at RIV or future resort but can be used at all others at 7 months with direct RIV points. And you would be able to use the resale at 11 months at the resale resort.

It is not the owner who has the benefits or restrictions, it is the contracts, So, an owner who has a contract that is bought direct right now for at least 125 points will have access to the blue card as long as they own that contract...or buy other direct contracts that need the minimum.

Those points can be used everywhere, Any points bought resale will carry with them restrictions, no matter what else is owned,

So, RIV resale can be used only at RIV, All other resales can be used only at L14.

You're correct. I think what was on my mind was how it can become tricky when trying to use points from contracts with different use years.

Now on that point you are 100% correct. Different use year can be tricky especially for someone still learning the system.

My best answers I have to your questions is: Yes and Yes.
You will be able to use your direct Riviera points contract and any resale contract points at Riviera (combined in same reservation there) as long as the points in each contract are valid by their UY for the dates you are booking. (Keeping same UY makes the mind not have to work so hard when wanting to do the 11 month or as close as can with multiple UY’s, lol. Consider getting your best Riviera resale deal and membership first, then buy the 125 Riviera points direct and have them match your membership UY). Having a blue card contract in your membership should qualify you to blue card benefits for your portfolio of contracts. When you decide to book at a resort other than Riviera, only your direct points can be used.

My understanding is a little different. The blue card benefits will only apply to the points that meet the minimum for the benefits at the time they were purchased. Any resale, even for the same resort, will not qualify for blue card benefit mows. For example, if I have 4 contracts bought direct for AKV for a total of 125 points purchased in 2020, the four contracts together will qualify for the blue card. But if I purchase resale 100 points tomorrow for AKV, they will not qualify. Furthermore, I think the OP can use all of their points, direct or resale, at any of the current resorts if their resale is Riviera. Is my understanding incorrect?

There are two things in terms of restrictions right now, The use of points and blue card benefits,

To have a blue card, you must own direct points purchased via Disney at 125 minimum or have points grandfathered. Those points can be in one or more than one contract. As long as they remain in the membership, you have a blue card membership, Blue card vs white card became a thing in 2016 I think.

Points bought direct or resale points bought prior to Jan 2019 resale can be used at all DVC resorts, including RIV or any new ones down the line. Same resort can be combined at 11 months...different resorts at 7 months,

Resale points bought after January 2019 have restrictions on them. If you buy resale at RIV, you can only use them at RIV. If you buy resale anywhere else, you can not use them at RIV, even if you own direct points there, but can use at all other L14 resorts..

Thank you! You have such an awesome way of making complicated things sound manageable.
