I have a large number of points I want to rent/sell and heard there are people who buy them and rent them themselves. I think that is an option for me since I have so many and several use years to get rid of. What do you think? Are they legit? We want to use them for a Disney cruise but think it is a better plan to sell or rent them and use the money. Thanks for your thoughts.

Do you want to sell your contracts for good or just rent out some points?

The brokers don't "buy" your points. They find renters for your points. You still have to do all the reservations yourself. IME, it's faster, easier and more lucrative to rent out the points yourself without going through a middle-man.

Note: When you say you have a "large number of points ", if you make 20 reservations or more a year for others, DVC might consider you a commercial renter.

What if you have multiple memberships, like OP? Or if you have multiple membership with different titles?

The rule created by DVD was more than 20 reservations per "DVC Member" without specifying how that applied if there were multiple use years or identity of actual owners on the deed varied somewhat, both of which situations would result in there being more than one member number. Not sure anyone has tested the situation and it would be rare for any owner to make more than 20 reservations per year even if he had multiple membership numbers. The rule when created in 2007 was aimed at those who had essentially gone into the business of renting DVC resorts. Afterwards, there were reports of a few members getting notices of possible violations, but I have seen nothing reported since about 2008 indicating DVD has taken steps to actually enforce the rule against some members.

I recently bought some triple loaded contracts, and offered too many and passed too many, thought of getting only few. So I am in same situation as OP. but trying to keep in back of my mind not to cross that number. How DVD interpret this rule, want to see if any body else has any knowledge or experience of this rule.

I think the 20 reservations could be managed. Only rent to people who are wanting to book longer stays or in larger accommodations. You would have more control of that if you managed things yourself versus going thru a middleman.

Just got a word from Disney thru broker, they will look at your name in all memberships you are associated with and 20 applied to all together. Still trying to find more answer of this question, what they will do if you go over 20?:headache:

There was a rumor that a member who owned multiple contracts was ordered to cease and desist by Disney attorneys or his membership would be frozen. Meaning no reservations. And the ones he had, the guest would be told that the reservation had been canceled.

Do you remember when that happened?

Maybe two years ago or so? There was a lot of tension on the Budget Board and Resort Board when people could not contact the owner who made their reservation.
