Points and waitlist dilemma question...

Hi Everyone,

I'm trying to get a Boardwalk view for a full week (Sun thru Sat) this Summer and I have multiple reservations to piece something together.

I have the following rooms booked:

Reservation #1:
Garden/Pool View
Sun and Mon

Reservation #2:
Boardwalk View
Tue, Wed, Thr, Fri and Sat

Reservation #3:
Boardwalk View
Sun

I have a waitlist for a Boardwalk View room for that Mon, such that I could then piece together a full week between Reservation #2, #3 and the waitlist. But, in case I can't get that day, I booked Reservation #1 and then we would just have to switch rooms on Tue.

Here's my situation: I don't have enough points left for this use year or to borrow from for next use year to cover the waitlist if it comes thru. When I waitlisted the one day, I did add on the request to cancel Reservation #1 thinking that the points from that would then be used to cover the waitlisted day. Will this work or will I have any problems? Also, I have been stalking everyday to see if that one day does open up, but then I just realized that if I don't have any available points, there's no use in me stalking; I have to hope I get it via the waitlist.

Does anyone have any suggestions around this? Is this something that if the room does become available online, I can then select it (don't I have 20 minutes from selecting the room to finalizing it?) and then call DVC to finalize it for me. Or, can I select it, cancel Reservation #1 (which would give me my points back), and then use those points for the new single day reservation? I remember reading something about having two different browser windows up...does this still work?

Thanks for any suggestions!

Yes, that will work. Waitlist matches are processed by humans who can use the right points.

You can still stalk the website and use the two-device method to hold one room while you cancel the other.

So right now you have Sunday booked twice? If your WL for Monday goes through and it cancels/replaces your #1 you should have plenty of points. Also if your WL goes through it will automatically book it for you, you won't have to do anything. If it does happen, all you would need to do is contact MS and explain that you have 3 separate reservations that cover the week. So long as it's the SAME ROOM TYPE/VIEW, they will most likely combine them into one for you. A lot of variable there though. Really all you need to do is stalk Monday, so if you get lucky, you would just cancel #1 all together. The points are there until a WL is confirmed. So if you find a room on Monday, book immediately and then go cancel your WL request. Again, you would have the whole week so MS would most likely just combine them into one. Hopefully that makes sense...

That is exactly what we did to stalk our way to a 1br std at BLT. All combined now to 1 reservation. :)

MS will combine, either automatically or upon request, once you have days in a row in the same sort of room. I’ve had three waitlists going the last few months and each time they put the consecutive days under one reservation.
