Point Transfer ????

I transferred 65 HH points into another DVC members account. When she went to make the reservation they told her that the points had been given her use year (which we had already been told would happen) but also her home resort. We had expected that she would get HH as her home resort giving her the 11 month window to make a summer reservation. This doesn't make sense to me. Is there any recourse? Any suggestions would be welcome.

The points should remain as HH. I had points transferred into my account and had to have a manager make the reservation so that they would retain the eleven month window. It can be done, just be persistant.

I think this is great news!

I wanted to know if I could transfer points from one of my contracts to another at a different home resort and make 11 month ressies at the new resort. I was told that the points would remain with the original resort priority. In your case that didn't happen.

For example - I have 150 points at BWV and 150 points at BCV under two different contracts and different use years. I want to make 11 month ressies at BCV but I need 200 points. I transfer the 50 points from the BWV contract to the BCV contract. Based on what you said, the transferred points take on the BCV use year and BCV home resort priority. I can then make the 11 month ressie at BCV.

I am understanding this correctly?

This is important!! I have 110 BCV pts that are a persistent pain in the backside because I can't really use them for any BWV ressie. If I just have to transfer them to a different contract to make them into BWV pts, that is terrific news. I had been told once by another member that this is true, but have never tried it. I have got to call MS to see if this is so!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! DON'T CALL !!!

You'll reveal the flaw in the system and they'll change it.

Trust me, they are well aware of the problem. They can do a manual work around if you press them enough. They are actively working on the problem and it could be fixed soon. So expect to see someone post something to this effect soon.
I bought OKW points and had them transferred to my BWV contract to I'd be able to use them for a standard view at Xmas at the 11 month window. They said they fixed that flaw in the system and now the points can only be used at BWV at the 7 month window but at OKW at 11 months out. I am so upset. I would never have bought these points if I knew they would retain their home resort and use year.

Based on my experience they won't fix it. It's the Disney way. They know there's a problem and they also know that there's very few people that will know the system well enough to make use of the flaw. So why spend thousands of dollars to fix a minor problem?

It's the same with the general public and room discounts. We know we can get up to 45% off the rack rate but most people don't. If everyone knew about the discounts and used them, Disney would take them away.

I know this sounds cynical but it's true. Even the people reading this thread won't try the transfer because they won't bend the rules. I guess that's a good thing. :D

I'm probaly as or more cynical than you and I'm confident they will fix it. It might be a month or a year or 2 but I'm sure it will be done. My guess is that SS will require a computer software upgrade and the fix will come with it.

So, if I own at OKW and BCV and transfer HH points into my account, which home resort would they attach them to?

You'd have to tell DVC which account (OKW or BCV) and which use year (if not the same as yours). At this time they would become the use year and home resort you directed them to. The risk is with doing this with the intention of that happening as they may, I think will, get it fixed fairly soon and my guess is no latter than when SS starts reserving.

I'm assuming this only works if you hold two seperate contracts, not add-ons to an original contract?

I don't think it matters. Technically, contracts from different resorts are separate even if the same use year and main membership number. So if you transfer in you must tell them which home resort, at least for now. If they fix the glich, then the transferred points would essentially be their own contract.

I have 150 points at OKW and Boardwalk, both with a December use year. I am looking to make a reservation for Thanksgiving 2004 at the Boardwalk in a standard room. If I transfer my OKW points to my Boardwalk contract and make my reservation 12/03 and they correct this problem next year I am all set because I already have my resevation correct?

IMHO, it is unethical to knowingly take advantage of this system flaw. DVC has an obligation to correct the problem to prevent dishonest members from gaining an advantage they are not entitled to have.

We all know (or should know) that the 11 month reservation window for a particular resort is for reservations made with points originally purchased for that particular resort. Buy where you want to stay the most!

Flame me if you like.
