Point Transfer Question

I think my head is full of mashed potatoes this morning, because I think I should know the answer to this, but here goes:

I'm looking for another DVC member to transfer points to my BWV account for a trip in January of 2006. Is the soonest I can get these points transferred February of 2005?

I know you can't transfer borrowed points, but I know you can make ressies as long as the points will be available at the time of the trip. So, if someone has points coming can I transfer them ahead of time for a trip 1/06? Or do I need to wait for 2/05 to do the transfer for 1/06?

Yes, you are correct, it can't be more than a year ahead of time. One thing is that you do not have to have 2005 points, though. Anybody can rent you points(or trade with you), and then you can use them in your account just like they were your's. I'm not exactly sure how it works, but the points I rented got transferred into my account, and when I made ressies after my new use year, I used those points. I didn't think transferred points could be banked, but perhaps they can.

I transferred points once before and they did indeed end up becoming my use year (even ended up being BWV pts even though they were originally OKW). But this is really a "glitch" in the system, and I'd be afraid to take a chance, since they might fix that glitch and I'd be out of luck. Technically, according to the rules, transferred points are supposed to retain their original UY and Home resort. I know it rarely works out that way, especially the UY part, but I'm still too paranoid to take a chance and assume all will be well. Just my luck they'll be more vigilant about doing it according to the rules the day I do my transfer!

Anyway thanks for clarifying about the ressie. I put up my request on the rent/trade boards, hope I hear from someone soon.

I unfortunatly got in a financial bind and have to rent out some of my points (They are BCV, not BWV so I can't help you with that) but, I was transferring my February 2005 points to someone and I did ask them when I could transfer February 2006 points and she told me I can do that right now.

Wow, great to know! I guess even though I can't use them for a ressie until 2/06 they can be there "waiting" for me? Anyone else have any experience with this? I will call MS, but I've found not all of the CM's there are as knowledgeable as others, so I'd rather hear from people here who've actually experienced this situation.

So, anybody here transfer points prior to them being able to actually be used?

I just got off the phone with MS. I was told no one can transfer points until their use year starts. So I'm a bit puzzled at you being told you could transfer Feb '06 points now.

Anyone else have any experience with this? Heellllllppppp!!

I actually asked this to 2 different MS people because I was suspect of the first answer I received so when I called the next day to do a transfer I asked again. It is so crazy that people get different responses.

So does anybody know what the real policy is about renting 2006 points? I am going to need to rent about 440 points for a trip in July 2006. I was going to start looking soon, but now it sounds as though I can't rent them from somebody until August 2005. Is that correct?

Thanks Terry S ..... but I think I'm still confused. Are these 2006 points now considered to be borrowed points so that the member you transfer them to has to use them by 2/1/2006, or would that member retain the ability to use the points for the entire 2006 use year?
