Point transfer and use year

I just called Member Services and they told me that for one member to transfer points into another member's account, each must have the same use year. Is this true? Do I really have to find someone with an October use year for me to rent and transfer points into my account? I'm hoping that she was just mistaken. THANKS

If they told you that they were wrong. What is an issue is that in reality the points will assume your use year and home resort priority so be careful where you have them transferred to. You may actually get points that will not do what you want them to.

Thank you! That makes much more sense. One other question, how does the rental usually work for a transfer? 50% up front and 50% after transfer complete ? How do you go about getting references? I've never done a transfer before. THANKS

I can't speak for others but I would think most members would want full payment up front for a transfer. On a regular rental if something happens you can always cancel and use the points elsewhere. On a transfer, the points are gone so if there's a problem you ae stuck. I know I'd personally not be willing to transfer without the full payment up front. That issue and the computer limitations I mentioned above make transfers pretty undesireable.

The use year not need to be the same. However the points transferred retain their character. For example, if another transferred their August 2003 BWV points to your Oct (say OKW) membership, the points can have 11 months priority at BWV and 7 months at other resorts. And once the points are transferred, they cannot be banked. Therefore in the example above, those Aug 2003 points will expire on July 31st, 2004 if not used.
