I am still looking for 45 points, but I have an unrelated question also.

If you buy into a timeshare, say 150 points a year, do the number of points it takes to stay at a resort change every year? I guess I am also asking - how do you get the savings benefit? Also, if you buy a HH or VB timeshare, can those points also be used at resorts in WDW? Thanks for answering my question.

DB, the points can change but the total number of points cannot. What this means is that they may decide to make Sunday - Thursday night stays cost a few more points per night but in order to do this, they have to bring the Friday/Saturday night stay down by the same number of points. Therefore, if you buy 150 points today and that gets you a week in a studio, you are guaranteed to always be able to get that same studio in the same time frame for 150 a week. Hope that makes sense! As far as the points work, you can make reservations at your home resort 11 months before the trip, but at another DVC resort that is not your home resort at 7 months out. So, if you are wanting to use your points to stay at VB or HH in the summer (prime season) you will be able to book 11 months out. If you buy HH points, you cannot make a reservation at a WDW DVC resort until 7 months before the trip. Hope I have answered your questions. Good luck as you work through your questions!

Actually, what janiejo said is not quite right. It is true that the number of points needed remains the same, but the times of year may be adjusted as well. There will always be some way to get what you want for the points you want, but the times of year may change. This happens to a degree every year when they adjust for the moving holidays like Easter etc.

The simplest way of say it is that the number of points it takes to reserve a unit for a year can never change. They once raised the points for off season stays at OKW, they had to lower the points in other seasons an equal amount.

They have only done this once since DVC began. That was back in '96 at OKW.

HH and VB points can be used at WDW resorts. For any DVC resorts or points anywhere, you have the 7-11 month reservation window. At your home resort, you can reserve a room 11 months in advance, at a non-home resort you can reserve 7 months in advance. It is generally recomended to buy where you plan to stay most. Needing to reserve at the 7 month window can lead to dissappointment.

Thanks to everyone for your responses. My husband and I are now in the process of buying a timeshare resale. Your opinions have been invaluable in helping us determine where to buy. Thank you and wish us luck, we get the closing papers today or tomorrow :)
