Im not sure if this has ever been asked.

As you know I own a handful (!) of points.

Is there a thread where for example I am after a BWV Boardwalk view 10 months out for a week and I would swap for booking window at say RIV for a stay/room of approx the same points?

So they are not really being rented but using each other booking windows for swaps?

To be clear, Im not talking about a transfer

Thanks

I am swapping with another owner who is my friend. As far as I know, there’s nothing official, and I don’t think I would be happy doing it with a stranger.

But if you control the booking as you would do renting - Im not sure what the concern would be?

Do you think there would still need to be a contract, though? I feel like there would still need to be some sort of official agreement...?

Indeed - which is why I would want to do it with BWV 1BR BW view...
But I can't at 7 months, or not for a full week or two anyway - just a few days

Maybe we should talk - I have RIV points :)

You are talking about contracts, and that’s more work than I would like to get into.

I think it’s a nice idea and I hope it works out for everyone who is interested!

But then its no different from renting out points which I do regularly. The contract gives some reassurance to both parties.

But save from that I think the principle is sound.

I don't have enough points for that! Yet...... LOL

I have wondered why Disney doesn't do it within the DVC community and monetize it for themselves (small fees etc) - for both swapping and renting. There are probably the obvious headaches, admin and other problems that would arise - but definitely something that could be facilitated online fairly easily.

We did allow these in the past. However, there were so few of them and they so seldom worked out that it was decided to stop allowing them.

The one transfer per use year per Membership adds complexity to point swaps as does the different "values" attributed to different resort's points. For example, do you think RIV points have the same value as AKV points?

You may certainly ask an owner (in his or her Points for Rent thread) to accept payment for a reservation with a transfer of points or another reservation if you wish. He/She may not agree, of course.

I do not believe the Rent/Transfer Mods will revisit this decision anytime in the near future.

The idea of this is fantastic but there are just too many variables. Coming to terms with what is "fair" might leave one of the trading partners not feeling all that great about it.

I just think point for point is fair......

I realise if I wanted BWV I would get more nights per point that someone using my RIV ones

And the difference in number of nights would also be tricky, which is why it may never have been a very popular choice.

If I want 5 nights at RIV and you want 5 nights at BWV, it’s not going to be even trade, even valuing point for point the same.

So, then there is potential money? And, when doing this with a stranger, someone has to goes first and you have to hope they don’t cancel. But, no different then renting.

It sounds like it would be easy but it’s really got a lot of moving parts.
