Point Situation w/MS.....

After all I read about not being able to log into the DVC sight I tried and was successful. So I decided to check my point status for this UY and low and behold I have 18 points left and 15 of which are bankable. That didn't make any sense to me so I called MS. Apparently they did not use all my prior UY banked points for our upcoming stay but used the all current UY pts and the 3 left over were considered non bankable 05UY points. I know it was only 3 points but do little mistakes happen like this? If I didn't log in I would have lost 3 points and I know some actually are 3 points short for a reservation.

That's why I always take a couple of extra minutes after making a ressie to be sure I understand exactly where the points came from, and what I have left where. I've only found one inconsequential mistake so far, but it's always good to check.

That's a little tip I picked up right here on the DIS, incidentally.

I had banked points from 05 when I made my ressie for DLR. I asked to make sure the banked points were what made this ressie and was told that they always use the banked points before the current UY points. In my case it used all of the banked points, plus 5 from the 06 UY, so I should be OK.

I think I am fine this time, however, is there a way (other than calling MS) to make sure that the banked points were used and not current UY when you make a ressie?

I specify which points to use and the remainder for the current use year and upcoming use year just to make sure. If there's any discrepancy, we deal with it right then and there.

I do exactly what Dean does then after the reservation is confirmed I do exactly what JimMIA does. Either I've been lucky or I've been good at staying on top of our points because we've never (not yet anyway) had a point management problem. I will note that the more contracts you have the more likely a problem will happen. In our case I've learned to mention to MS that some of our contracts appear on the second page of their computer display due to our contracts not all being able to fit on their first page. It isn't unusual to hear the MS cast member say "Oh, I see that now".

I am in a situation now where I have 53 banked 05 points that need to be used.
When I added a day to our ressie for Dec., for 54 points, I specifically asked that the banked points be used and was told they were.

I called to waitlist a studio yesterday and found out that the banked points were not used as I was told. And was told they cannot shift things around to re-allocate the points. The only way to use them is if the studio comes thru, CM made a notation to use those 05 points.

I am not sure what to do. Call and cancel the day I had added then rebook it?
Go ahead and post the points for rent/transfer?
Or cross my fingers and hope the waitlist comes thru? (Not too confident in that because of the dates)

Any advice from those more knowledgable in DVC?

I had the same issue come up with our points. We booked SSR with 05 & 06 points - borrowing a few from 07. We changed our ressie at 7m to OKW - totalling a few more points from 07. We called to rebook day-by-day so I checked online a week later to make sure everything went through fine (we still had not received our confirmation by mail).
It showed that MS has used our 05 points, some 06 points and borrowed most of our points from 07. I still had time to call and sort it out and while I procrastinated the site went down for servicing. When it came back my points had been fixed!
I definitely would call - rather than wait - but you certainly shouldn't have to cancel and rebook for the points alloc to be fixed.

How many contracts DO FIT on the first page of MS' Screen?

I'm uncertain how many fit but I can tell you how many don't fit. My wife's membership has 1 master contract and 8 add-ons and the 9 contracts don't all fit on the first page.

Okay, well I feel better.
Called back today and the CM I had worked it out for me, explaining every step for me. I admitted that I get confused on these things.

She cancelled one day of the ressie, rebooked it using those banked points then linked the day to the rest of the ressie so it would be seamless, my guests won't have to check out then check back in.
Then she went over my remaining point totals----now all my '05 are used up, all my remaining '06 points are regular points that I can bank into '07 if I need to.

So I guess if anyone else finds themselves in this situation, call back and ask if they can talk you thru re-allocation of points.

Maybe the OP can transfer those 3 points to another member, so they aren't wasted?
