Point situation question

Hi all...brand new to the program and trying to find our way through our first few reservations. We currently have 2 pending trips-one short trip to Disneyland in November and another to the World in February. We were able to find accommodations for the entirety of our February trip and so far have successfully gotten one night at the Grand Californian for November. My question begins here...

We still are hopeful to get the other two nights at the Grand Californian (wishful thinking I know) but depending on what type of room opens up we may have to borrow points to cover it. I have a waitlist that says they may borrow from the next year if needed. However, before we borrowed I would look to downgrade one of our nights that is a one bedroom to a studio in February to use the saved points toward California. If the waitlist comes through and DVC borrows from the next year, will the account automatically adjust if I am able to downgrade the other room while still falling in the cancellation window? If the points get borrowed and there is nothing I can do I wont even try to downgrade.

Borrowing is a final transaction so once borrowed they cannot be placed back.

But an option would be for you to do the downgrade you mentioned and free up some of your current UY points which if you were within your banking window could be banked into your next UY.

I do not believe you will not be able to do IF the WL matches then downgrade the room, use those points and borrow the rest. What you'd have to do would either be to downgrade now in hopes of matching OR let them borrow then possibly change and possibly reallocate the points and bank some back to next year from your Feb trip.
