Point Schedule for Adjoining Rooms

I am new to the DVC. I see comments about making reservations for multiple rooms for one stay. For example, rent a Studio and a one Bedroom is less points than a two bedroom (I may have the accommodations mixed up). I do not find any "special" point chart for this. Am I just confused? This site has been so helpful !

You've got it backwards. Renting a 2 br will use less points than a 1 br and a studio.

As an extra piece of information, you are talking about connecting rooms not adjoining rooms.

Connecting= door in between
Adjoining= near each other but not attached

Not entirely relevant to the question for DVC but it was in your title.

"Connecting" is what I should have used, not adjoining. Are there any rooms at SSR that are connecting? What is a connecting room considered in the points category?

Connecting would be a lockoff two bedroom villa and would be booked as a two bedroom villa. A studio connected to a one bedroom. They are pretty much the only connecting villas in all of DVC except for studios at the Polynesian. Some of them connect, but connecting studios is not a request. It's just luck.

Point wise, it appears I would be better off getting two Studios rather than a two bedroom if I am sleeping 5 adults. What am I missing ?

The living room and kitchen you would get in a 2 bedroom. The only resort where they could possibly connect is the Polynesian.

You might not be close to each other. You give up the laundry room in the villa and full kitchen. You still get a kitchenette (probably no freezer) with a microwave and access to a laundry room. Plus no king sized beds in studios, just the one bedroom and larger.

No lounge, no kitchen, no laundry nowhere to get together as a group.

And you might be at opposite ends of the resort.

2 studios will only be 2 real beds but a 2 bedroom can be 3 if you book a dedicated and also the King Master is worth having.

If you are just using the room to sleep and shower, that's probably true. If you intend to spend much time in the room the 2BR would be at least 50% larger than two studios and would have a living area with a sofa bed, coffee table and chair, a TV, a kitchen and washer and dryer. Some people don't care about those amenities but we make good use of them on our stays. We fix breakfast and maybe a dinner or two in the kitchen and with the washer and dryer in the room we can take half the clothes and throw in a load or two of laundry part way through our stay.

It may not work for your group, but a 1BR in Kidani or BLT have 2 full bathrooms and have a queen sleeper couch and a sleeper chair in the living room

It's roughly the same points but you get the kitchen, larger bath with tub, King bed and more privacy with the 1 BR over the studio. Most studios have a queen and pull out full, OKW has 2 queens. Some studios now have a small additional bed for a fifth but I don't get the sense it'll work for your group. The 2 BR isn't that much more than a 1 BR but with only 175 points, it may be enough more to make it difficult for you for most trips.

Your options for five are (point charts can be found here http://www.wdwinfo.com/disney-vacation-club/DVCpoints.shtml):

1. 2BR's (not at Poly except for extremely expensive bungalows): Costs less than separate studio and 1BR in the same resort/booking category. All the WDW resorts, other than Poly, have 2BR lock-offs (which can be separate studio and 1BR). All except BWV and the Jambo building (a booking category) at AKV also have dedicated 2BRs, meaning rooms that can only be 2BRs and have a single entry door; those are a separate booking category from lock-offs. The 2BRs are huge in comparison to two studios and have a living room, kitchen and w/d, two bathrooms except three at BLT and AKV Kidani building, and the master bath is a large bath with separate tub and shower (except at Jambo where it is combined). If what you want includes the amenities of a 2BR and lots of space that can hold 5 with great comfort, then consider a 2BR.

2. 1BRs (not at Poly): significantly larger than two studios and have everything the 2BR has except the second bedroom/studio and the bathroom in that bedroom. VWL, BCV, BWV, and SSR have only sleeping places for four -- a king in the master bedroom and couch pull-out queen in the living room. For those, DVC actually allows five but provides no bedding options for the fifth (you have to bring your own). The 1BRs at AKV (other than value), BLT, and OKW have an additional pull-out twin size bed in a large chair in the living room and thus can sleep five; VGF has a pull down murphy bed from the cabinet below the TV in the living room and thus also sleeps five. Those at AKV Kidani and BLT also have a second full bathroom. Particularly at the ones that have bedding for five, you can easily have five and get the amenities, including full kitchen and w/d, although not as good as having the 2BR. It is definitely the option rather than two studios if you want the room amenities and have all in one room.

3. Studios: two studios usually cost in the same approximate range as a 1BR, sometimes less, sometimes more, depending on view and time of year. Having them close to each other is a request that they will try to meet but is not guaranteed. If what you want is just a basic room without living room, kitchen and w/d, and have the five in separate rooms, two studios would be the choice over 1BR. You can put five in one studio at VWL, BWV (not all rooms done yet), VGF and Poly because they have an additional murphy bed that pulls down from the cabinet below the TV. BCV will be added to that group following a renovation to be done next year. Five is a tight fit in any studio even the larger ones at VGF and Poly and if you are looking at cost, the ones at VGF and POLY are not your lower cost options.
