Point Rentals

Hi I'm hoping someone (or more than one someones) can point me in the right direction. I have rented points through DVCRequest twice and I thought I would try and find an owner and rent directly though them. I'm a little nervous since I've never gone that route. What is the best way to go about this? How do I find the owners and what do I need to do to make sure it is not a scam? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

I’ve rented twice with owners straight through Dis. It worked out great and helped save some money. You should always get a Disney reservation confirmation before sending any funds. Just remember that these trips are non-refundable...it’s best to buy insurance.

Agree with everyone who chimed in already. I’ve rented from owners on the boards. Do your homework and you should be good. You should get a reservation number from the owner via email and be sure to get your rental agreement in writing. It’s a great way to save money and have a wonderful trip!

In fact, an owner who rents without a written agreement is actually violating their own contract with Disney. So no contract = bad.

Read all the sticky threads at the top of the Rent/Trade Board. Do not reply to any Private Messages that you did not initiate because that is how scammers get you. Also ignore any really cheap offers because that is also a way scammers get you. Finally, ignore any impossible offers of points like BCV or BWV during F&W at four or five months out in a studio. That is impossible that late. Do not purchase any RCI trade because both RCI and DVC do not allow the sale of RCI trades. You should get a clue about an RCI trade with language like "$180 fee due at check in" or similar. With a DVC rental, there is no fee due at check in. If DVC finds you bought an RCI trade (you'll find them all over Ebay, Redweek, etc), it can be cancelled and then you are out your trip.
